Set Lanes
  • Ensures in the same lane each session
  • Provides progression as children will be moving
up through the lanes (movement will be based on
    assessments and coaches professional
    opinions/recommendation)
  • New lane settings after each squad movement.
  • Ensure continuity of coaches
  • Coaches get to know the children in their
lanes/their ability and improvements that they
    need to make.

9
Code of Conduct
  • When a teacher / coach is talking swimmers should
not talk, and should look at the teacher / coach.
Where swimmers are not doing this they will be
told to hold the rail, and ultimately to stand on
the side if they continue to talk.
  • Swimmers are not allowed to go to the toilet
    during a set.
  • Swimmers are not allowed to stop in the middle of
a length. Any swimmer stopping at the end should
get out and wait on the side so as not to get in
the way of other swimmers who are still in the
    water.
  • Swimmers must make every effort to move over at
the end of the lane to allow others to finish.
  • There is an expectation that swimmers will attend
as many sessions as possilbe. It is critical to
swimmer development. If a swimmer has been away
due to illness they must inform their coach on
return as to the nature of the illness.
  • Swimmers are expected to arrive on poolside on
time for each session Lateness causes a major
disruption to the session. It is vital a swimmer
warms up correctly in order to avoid injury. It
is bad manners to arrive late. This applies to
    all ages!

10
Aims of Development One
  • Main aim is to develop the FUNdamentals
  • This becomes important further up the club
because children need to be able to hold
technique as the develop their stamina and power.
  • Children work on improving their own performance,
achieving PBs and taking part in swimming
    events.

11
Aims of Development One
  • Children have achieved squad standard in a
    competitive swimming club.
  • Swim lengths thus this develops stamina, use of
the pass clock, lane rules and use of starts and
    turns.
  • Children will develop a mature and positive
    attitude to training.
  • Children are encouraged to become more
independent and take responsibility for their own
development and progression during training by
    acting on coaches feedback

12
Development 1A
  • Development 1A squad is now to be used as a
    stepping stone to Development 2.
  • This is for children who have the technical
ability which is considered the standard of
development two, but still have something to work
on or improve before moving up, such as speed,
    stamina or strength.
  • Moving a child up before they are ready will do
their stokes more harm than good as their
    technique will deteriorate.
  • Some children may not need development 1a as a
stepping stone and will go straight from 1 to
    development 2.

13
Development 1a
  • Work to the same 8 week cycle as development 1 to
    ensure all strokes are covered.
