• The National Association of Manufacturers 2001
  members' survey asked employers about their
  reasons for rejecting applicants for jobs.
• 31.6 stated inadequate reading/writing skills
• 17.5 inadequate oral communication skills
• 20.7 inadequate math skills.
• The same survey revealed the most serious skill
  deficiencies of current employees. They found
  that
• 32.4 poor reading/writing skills
• 26.2 inadequate math skills
• 25.0 an inability to communicate
• 23.7 poor English language skills
• 22.1 an inability to read and translate
  drawings/diagrams/flow charts

Building on Existing Structures

• Renewed focus on daily journals.
• Implement systems for teaching Technical
  Terminology.
• Provision of content specific reading assignments
  (min. 30) throughout the year.
• Expansion of Career Portfolio project to include
  multi-media entries, writing assignments, and
  class presentations.
• Continued support for CTE instructors through
  professional development, structured in-service
  time, co-teaching opportunities, in-school
  resources (mentors, publications).
• Continued evaluation of student progress SRI,
