Routes to membership
Affiliate membership Open to anyone with an
interest in risk. You get a certificate of
membership but no letters after your name. You
get the same information and networking benefits
as all other members, e.g. InfoRM, access to
website and Lecture, member discounts. Certifican
t membership Open to anyone holding the IRMs
International Certificate in Risk Management.
You can use the CIRM letters after your name but
it is not a voting grade. Specialist membership
To be introduced later in 2009. People holding
either one of our specialist Diploma modules, or
an equivalent academic or professional
qualification, will be admitted at this level and
entitled to use the post-nominal letters SIRM.
Examples of the relevant qualifications are an
MSc in a risk related subject or a holder of the
ACII/FCII. This is not a voting grade. People
who think they may qualify as Specialist Members
are being encouraged to join as affiliates now
and they will then be upgraded as soon as the new
grade is launched.

Routes to membership
Membership of the IRM is open to those holding
the IRMs International Diploma in Risk
Management or an equivalent qualification (in
level and scope) plus three years experience in
risk management. This gives full voting rights
and the letters MIRM. You can also then progress
to Fellowship (FIRM) the highest level of
achievement, awarded by collecting points for
professional activity within the Institute and
Profession over at least two years. There are
other grades of membership for university
students and Diploma holders who have not yet
achieved three years experience (GradIRM). The
grade of Associate (AIRM) was withdrawn around
four years ago and Associates are all now
Members.
