Overview
  • Motivation
  • To build a mote with better radio communication
    capability
  • Chipcon Radio CC1000
  • Low Power Consumption
  • 7.4/9.6 mA for receive mode
  • 5.3/8.6 mA (-20dBm) for transmit mode14.8/25.4
    mA (5dBm)
  • Reduced interference thanks to FM modulation
  • DOT3 motes
  • Basically essential parts of MICA with new radio
  • ATMega 128 processor and 6 ADC channels
  • CC1000 Radio

Chipcon CC1000
  • Supports different bands of frequency
  • 315, 433, 868 and 915 MHz bands are supported
  • Can choose only one range because RF circuit
    depends on the frequency range
  • We tested for 433MHz and 915MHz
  • Allows to select a frequency within a range
  • Within a range (e.g. 915MHz), we can choose a
specific frequency out of 40 frequencies
  • Good for reducing any interferences from other
    devices
  • Supports two tones. One for transmit, the other
    for receive.

Status
  • It works!
  • The range was around 100ft indoors
  • 373 Cory to the elevator

5
Status
  • Difficulty
  • Initial production targeted for 433MHz had a
wrong inductor (which is for 915MHz).
  • After replacing the inductor, it worked.

Inductor L8 was in wrong value (should be 33nh,
but in 4.7nh)
6
Demo
  • Demo 1
  • Two 900MHz DOT3 motes
  • One mote sends a message and the other blinks
    upon receiving the message
  • Demo 2
  • One 433MHz DOT3 and one 433MHz MICA2
  • Sends a command and receive reply through MICA2
which works as a base station. DOT3 operates
receives command and gather ADC sensing data.
