4
Future Activities
  • Main topics for discussion
  • One major activity and one smaller activity
    proposed for the upcoming year
  • Organize a global forum to increase the presence
of young people on the global AIDS agenda
  • Proposed date March 2010
  • Prepare advocacy briefs on specific key topics
related to young people and HIV, such as the
    importance of age-disaggregated data,
    youth-friendly health services, etc.

5
Proposed Forum
  • OBJECTIVES
  • To raise awareness among key stakeholders (
Policy makers, donors, UN agencies, civil society
etc) and to share knowledge and experience on
    effective approaches and partnerships for
effective HIV prevention among young people,
    especially most-at-risk young people and
  • To mobilize political and financial support
towards achieving the global commitments as well
as the goal of universal access to HIV
prevention, treatment and care for young people.

6
Proposed Forum Cont.
  • To intensify prevention, treatment and care for
young people and in particular scaling up of
proven interventions that work as regards HIV
prevention as mentioned in the political
    declaration, the IATT/YP will host a 3-Day
Consultation meeting. Over the three days, it is
expected that all stakeholders will come to a
consensus on what actions need to be taken at the
global, regional and national levels to scale up
HIV prevention among young people. This forum
will also feed into the XVIV International AIDS
International AIDS Conference in Vienna in 2010.

7
Proposed Forum Cont.
  • PARTICIPANTS AND PARTNERS
  • The participants will include 100 representatives
from civil societies (including young people), UN
    agencies, multi-lateral and bilateral donors,
    national governments, international
    organizations, media, academic and research
    institutions and the private sector.
  • PREPARATION FOR THE GLOBAL PARTNERS MEETING
  • In order to achieve the objectives of the
meeting, funding is sought to undertake the
following key preparatory exercises among others
  • Meeting to discuss and document lessons learned
in SRH/HIV/AIDS programming for young people
  • Determining resource allocation, spending and
resource gaps needed to scale up HIV prevention,
treatment and care for young people

8
Advocacy Brief(s)
  • Two options
  • Wait to see how the Global Guidance Briefs are
being used and then push for an issue that is
getting good traction or is being left of the
    table or
  • Independent of the Briefs, select an issue or
issues and draft short, two-page advocacy briefs
    on those topics

9
Additional Activities
  • Is there a key activity or topic the Advocacy
Working Group needs to work on in 2009-2010?
  • How can this working group support and/or bring
together work from the other working groups?
