2What is a Curriculum Vitae?
A CV is a personal work history. Today, many
firms ask applicants applying for jobs to include
a CV with their application form. They are best
prepared on a Word Processor, so that they can be
updated whenever a change to your personal
circumstances occurs. This also allows you to
tailor each CV to the demands of the particular
job you are applying for.
3What should you include in a CV?
It is important to put as much relevant
information in as possible, as the person who is
looking at it will probably never have met you.
You need to advertise yourself to someone!
Although the layout of a CV may vary from person
to person, the main elements you need to include
remain the same. You need to include
Personal details such as name, age, address,
status and DOB.
Education Secondary schools attended with dates
and work experience.
Qualifications GCSEs, A levels, degrees etc
Hobbies/Interests What you like to do in your
spare time and give details.
Personal qualities Your personal
characteristics, be honest!
4Advantages of using a CV
Candidates can include other information
which may not be requested on an application form
CVs provide an insight into how candidates
see themselves suitable to a particular job
They can save the firm the cost of producing
application forms
A Curriculum Vitae can be prepared in
advance, ready to be used when a vacancy arises
Applicants can tailor their CV to suit the
requirements of a particular job.
5Disadvantages of using a CV
6Scenario
When people are applying for jobs in school such
as teachers, caretaker, cleaner etc, they have
to include a CV with their application form.
This gives details of the persons work history
and personal details about themselves. Mrs
Spedding, for example, needs to see this so she
can compare it with other applicants.
This could shorten the list of possible
candidates, as some applicants could have better
qualifications than others etc. She can then
arrange interviews.
However, the applicant could put anything on
their CV, and do not have to include things that
they would consider bad about themselves.
