Title: Tunde
1Tunde
Tunde is a key stage 4 student taking the
Foundation Diploma. He has really enjoyed music
and dance in key stage 3 and especially learning
to play drums. Recently, he has been given some
decks and has tried his hand at DJ-ing. The
opportunity to use technology to mix and record
music is something he wants to develop further in
a Higher Diploma in creative and media and is
really keen to get some work experience in a
recording studio or music shop. Hes also keen to
find out about how things work behind the
scenes in music venues and theatres.

Project
An education business partnership organisation
arranged for Tunde to undertake a work placement
at a local record shop. The employer encouraged
Tunde to get involved in a number of aspects of
the business. Tunde was given a particular brief
to establish the most popular genres of music
that customers purchased. The experience
broadened Tundes awareness of the music business
and supported the development of his personal
learning and thinking skills.
Tunde and three fellow students decided to
collaborate in a joint project that contributed
to the schools annual celebration of its music
and dance work. They worked together on lighting
and sound mixing. Once familiar with the
programme, they created a schedule and a
storyboard that was presented to the teachers and
refined in rehearsals. Tunde took particular
responsibility for operating the mixing desk,
creating effects and moods for the performers.
