When ringing Oxford you are actually only doing a
treble bob run most of the time. However, there
is normally no dodge in the 1-2
position. Remember although this looks like a
treble bob run, working bells only ever dodge in
1-2 when it occurs with the treble. This happens
at the start and end of the long leads and
nowhere else, just as in Kent TB.
7
The 'long leads' of Oxford Start by dodging 1-2
with the treble. Lead full. Make 2nd place over
each of the other working bells in turn,
This is just like Kent, so theres no need to
learn it separately.
leading full between them,
until the treble comes back to you.
End the long leads by dodging with the treble.
8
If you meet the treble in 3-4 you dodge with it,
just as you would with any of the other bells.
9
Pass the treble in 2-3 Make 4th places and go
back in Occurs just before the long
leads Pass the treble in 1-2 Make 4th place
and go in again Occurs just after the long leads
10
Pass the treble in 4-5 Make 3rd place and go
back out Pass the treble in 5-6 Make 3rd
places and go out again
11
How do you know when to make the places? Watch
where you pass the treble on your way out from
lead. If you pass the treble in 1-2 or 2-3 you
are about to make 4th place and go back to the
lead. If you pass the treble in 3-4 you
immediately dodge with it. If you pass the
treble in 4-5 or 5-6 you will soon be making 3rd
place and going out again.
12
Later you will look to see where the treble bell
is as you are approaching 3rd or 4th place. If
the treble is there, too, you will dodge with
it. If it is below you (ie in position 1 or 2)
you will make 3rd or 4th place and change
direction. If the treble is above you, you will
dodge in 3-4 as normal.
13

Bobs in Oxford The bell that has just made 3rds
and is about to go out will make 4ths at the bob,
then make 3rds again before going out to the
back. Bells in 5-6 add a double dodge to the
dodge they are doing The other two bells make
their 4th places as normal
