  • PART TWO

GETTING TO KNOW YOU
2
YOUR OPPONENTS
  • The most important part of your strategy is your
    opponents
  • There are no absolute rules
  • All the guidelines I give you are player
    dependant
  • This is even more important in full ring
  • You must learn to observe the table

3
WHAT TO LOOK FOR?
Im still mad at you for getting lucky
Me too!
If Im betting, Ive got the nuts.
Im short-stacked.
There are 5 players behind me.
I called Q8o last time
I dont like to fold
I call lots preflop then fold most flops
I love broadway cards
4
PLAYER TYPES
  • Overall tendencies
  • These are my observations only
  • Players are very tight with raises
  • and VERY passive postflop
  • There is a ton of value to be had from good hands

5
PLAYER TYPES
  • The TAG
  • HUD stats 14/11 or tighter
  • Understands position
  • Bets value hands strongly
  • Knows how to continuation bet
  • Doesnt know anything about postflop play
  • Generally wont fold (due to limited range)

6
PLAYER TYPES
  • The shortstack
  • Generally sits with the table minimum (20bb)
  • Varies between really tight and insanely tight
  • Most love to play broadway cards
  • Doesnt care about postflop at all
  • Is super intensely annoying

7
PLAYER TYPES
  • The 6-max livewire
  • Plays FR like its 6-max
  • Possibly on tilt from higher stakes
  • Impatient
  • Over-aggressive
  • Easily trapped
  • Plays way too many hands

8
EXPLOITING YOUR OPPONENTS
  • The TAG
  • The least profitable
  • Generally try to stay out of their way
  • Not a good spot for value
  • Just play straightforward
  • Take advantage of post flop deficiencies
  • Especially if full stacked, most are afraid
    postflop

9
EXPLOITING YOUR OPPONENTS
  • The shortstack
  • Learn their ranges as fast as you can
  • Only raise a hand which you are willing to call a
    shove with
  • Dont try and bluff!
  • Be aware of your poor implied odds
  • Dont be afraid to call if you have a good read
  • Seek out tables with the least possible amount of
    them

10
EXPLOITING YOUR OPPONENTS
  • The 6-max livewire
  • Call in position with your great drawing hands
  • Dont be afraid to call down with marginal hands
  • Dont fight fire with fire, let him hang himself
  • Be patient!

11
GENERAL ERRORS
  • Overvaluing top pair
  • Value-bet all your good hands strongly
  • Dont play second best hands
  • Limp folding too much
  • Raise limpers liberally
  • If you want to play, come in for a raise
  • Calling draws without proper odds
  • Bet your made hands strong on drawy boards
  • Dont chase draws with poor odds!

12
DRAWING HANDS
  • Multiway pots
  • More players means bigger pots
  • Means better odds to call
  • Means better implied odds to hit a draw
  • Why?
  • Not laying down top pair
  • Or generally folding when beat
  • Not betting strongly enough
  • Generally passive nature of small stakes games

13
DRAWING HANDS
  • Selecting a drawing hand
  • Must have
  • Chance to hit many boards
  • Chance to make nut hands

?

?
14
DRAWING HANDS
  • We only play drawing hands in late position
  • We need the advantage of position to
  • Determine our price
  • Get reads on our opponents holdings
  • Maybe even run a bluff
  • We cant do these things out of position
  • Dont play drawing hands out of position!

15
BASIC DRAWING ODDS
  • Covered in great detail in my but it was
    soooted! video series
  • Your main draws are
  • Flush draw one card odds 41
  • Straight draw one card odds 4.51
  • Two overcards one card odds 6.51
  • You will be offered these odds far more often
    than in 6-max

16
SUMMARY
  • Know your opponents
  • Understand when it will be profitable to enter
    the pot
  • And why!
  • Next video
  • Full hands
  • From preflop to showdown
  • Crush the casino or your homegame
