3Some Background
- Kirkby Lonsdale is a small market town with a
resident population of about 2000, generally at
the greyer end of the scale, nestled between the
Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. - Its geographical position in the South East
corner of Cumbria means that it draws its players
and support, both young and old, from Cumbria,
Lancashire and North Yorkshire. - Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC is a Community based Club
with an extensive Mini, Youth and Colts set up,
providing access to a lifetime of Rugby for all
ages, from Under 7 to Over 70. - With three senior sides, an Under 19s squad
of over 20 and in excess of 300 players pitching
in on Sunday for the Mini, Youth and Colts,
facilities are stretched even before any visiting
sides arrive. - Aside from Rugby, the Club hosts the towns
Bonfire Night is heavily involved in the
Victorian Fair, the Lunesdale Agricultural Show
and promotes and supports a variety of Charities
eg. North West Air Ambulance and Motor Neurone
Disease. - The Club provides a base for the towns Brass
Band to practice twice a week and the pitches are
used for the KL Rounders Team, along with holiday
sports clubs with South Lakeland District Council - The Clubhouse is used by the KL Hockey and
Cricket Clubs for social events and the Club
provides access to its website to a number of
sports to help the information flow. - With over 25,000 visitors to the site each
year, 3 washbasins and no female changing is not
enough.
Problem The existing facilities were not
designed to cope with current needs

We recognise that self-help is option one
5Mini, Youth and Colts Background
- This has grown hugely over the past five years
and outgrown the available playing and changing
facilities - Over 270 members aged from 7 to Under 16, with
a further 30 members under 19. - 30 Volunteer coaches, all Level 1, 5 Coaches
at Level 2 and one almost a full Level 3 - Club Seal of Approval Levels 1, 2 and 3 was
driven by the MYC to ensure the Child Protection
Policies and ensure that the Club is a safe
environment for our children. - Much greater involvement with County Rugby,
providing a suitable, safe venue, coaches and
most of the members of the district squad - Partnership with the RFU, South Lakeland
District Council and Baliol School to fund a
three yearCommunity Sports Coach to develop
Rugby within Schools both in South Lakeland and
cross the arbitrary borders of adjacent
Lancashire and North Yorkshire. He is now our
School Liaison Officer. - Developing Girls Rugby started 2005 but lack
of facilities cause a problem coaches and
players available and keen. - With more than 10 home teams, and bearing in
mind they are children, parents need to be
accommodated as well, so facilities are
stretched, even before visiting sides and their
parents arrive
6Mutual Benefit
- We recognise that whilst there is undoubtedly a
degree of altruism in supporting Rugby and Junior
Rugby in particular, at the same time, there also
has to be a degree of mutual benefit. - We want to ensure that any major sponsor to the
Club does not feel that they are simply regarded
as being a milch cow by any part of the Club and
that their expectations are being met. In the
same breath, any association would perhaps
benefit from some basic understandings of what
these expectations might be at outset. - There are a number of immediate, ongoing, short
and long term areas that could be considered and
in many ways it would depend on the areas that
you want to be involved with. - Whatever that might be, as a Club, we would look
to - acknowledge any support publicly,
- promote our links,
- provide prominent web links,
- provide a first refusal option.
- As our support and players come from all areas,
what we cannot do is to allow sole rights.

8Facilities Improvements
The RFU and the North West Facilities Group have
agreed that we are a priority case and have come
up with a substantial amount towards funding the
greatly enhanced facilities at Underley
Park. This is primarily to provide an additional
8 changing rooms and make sure that the playing
facilities especially for the MYC are greatly
improved. As we have said, grants are good,
loans are bad however, it is highly unlikely
that we shall be able to source all funds via
grants and therefore an element of the total
funding will no doubt need to be arranged via the
RFU loan scheme interest free but with the
capital being repaid over the next 15 years or
so. As a club, we need to lay down and build up a
regular and reliable income stream to be able to
fund any repayments for these improvements. The
plans are available to look through if wanted but
as these are to provide MYC facilities for the
best part, agreeing some regular funding towards
this would be of help. We need about 1000 per
month and so far have commitments for about 400
of this. Rather than a regular donation, you may
prefer a once off capital payment and look to
Sponsor a Shower or such like. There are no
maximums or minimums but we can discuss the
efficiencies of giving.
This would be of help

9Friends of Kirkby Lonsdale Lunch
- Let The Friends of Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club
provide a pre-match lunch or buffet for you. - For a party of 25, this would be
- A Roast Beef lunch or buffet with all the
trimmings - A pint of beer for each male guest, 6 bottles of
wine on the table and soft drinks provided - A tankard for Man of the Match, selected and
presented by you - All this for 350.
-
- Let the Friends look after you and your guests in
the pre-match warm-up.

10Strip Sponsor
- Sponsorship of a single strip would include your
logo and could cost around 550.00 (shirts only).
-
- At present the only MYC squad that gets their
playing kit free is the Colts. This is currently
paid from MYC club funds. - Revenue from kit sales helps keep us afloat.
- For any additional age groups, we would look to
charge the usual costs to the players but any
sponsorship would increase profit. - Whilst we would look to put a suitable logo on
the shirts for you, we would not look to change
our club colours as we have played in these since
1877

11Tour and Match Sponsorship
Tour Sponsor We try to tour at least two squads
each year. Help with this could include
assistance with travel/accommodation costs,
provision of a tour tee shirt/polo shirt/training
top etc. Costs are dependant on distance,
duration, etc and we insist the touring squads
raise some funds themselves so that they
appreciate things a little more. Match
Sponsorship There are a variety of options
currently provided by the Friends of KLRUFC in
support of the adult squads. These centre around
a meal and beer/wine and options on awarding man
of the match etc (a corporate day). Costs range
from about 350 for 25 people and have been well
supported There is no reason why this could not
be done for an MYC match especially on Cup Match
Days or any Junior County Match Days.

12Tournament and Gifted Players
- Tournament
- There are plans to hold a Mini and Youth
tournament next season. Sponsorship of this
could include - Provision of trophies/medals
- Provision of prizes
- Catering
- Cost dependant on size of event, quality of
prizes etc. Ball park figure estimated at
1500.00 - Gifted Players
- Martin Johnson Rugby Camps. There are 8 of these
camps running in the summer. Maybe more in the
future and maybe closer to Kirkby Lonsdale. The
closest to us this summer is Huddersfield (65
miles 1.5 to 2 hours) - Places at the camp cost 150.00

13MYC Dinner
The MYC have organised very successful Wine
Tasting evenings before along with Irish Nights
etc. However it has long been suggested that we
arrange a Mini, Youth and Colts Dinner. The
main Club holds its annual, men only dinner in
February but we would like to hold a dinner for
the parents of the children that play in the MYC.
Many of the parents do not have interest in
rugby per se as the interest is in the childrens
activities and therefore a main Club event is not
something that would necessarily be supported. A
targeted Dinner for MYC parents would be of
interest and is planned for early February 2008
for about 100-120 people. The Cheese and Port
could be sponsored (150) or some Raffle Prizes.

14CASC Status and Volunteering
We applied for Community Amateur Sports Club
status in 2006 as this accurately reflects what
we as a Club are about. Firstly, CASC Status
means that if the club should fold at any stage
(going since 1877) all assets of the club are to
be passed on to another sports orientated club in
the community. This means that the facilities
would pass to another group within the community
for the continued benefit of the community and
therefore no coterie of individuals could ever
make any future financial gain from your help.
Secondly, KLRUFC is a completely voluntary
organization only the bar staff are paid as
everything else from the players, admin, grounds
etc to the 30 plus coaches for the Mini Youth and
Colts is given by the people of the local
community.

15CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility
- This is increasingly becoming a part of running a
business - Lip Service or Real - The Government sees CSR as the business
contribution to our sustainable development
goals. Essentially it is about how business takes
account of its economic, social and environmental
impacts in the way it operates maximising the
benefits and minimising the downsides.Specifical
ly, CSR is the voluntary actions that business
can take, over and above compliance with minimum
legal requirements, to address both its own
competitive interests and the interests of wider
society. the case for CSR - You CAN enhance your business performance,
profitability and reputation by working with your
local community. - Being in touch with the local community can
lead to new business opportunities. - Community involvement boosts networking
opportunities with suppliers and customers. - Helping to tackle social issues in your local
area such as crime can help the bottom line of
your business.
