Residential energy efficiency Creating a more
efficient building envelope Recently, there has
been significant media attention regarding
residential weatherization, a topic that in years
past garnered little press relative to
sophisticated clean technologies. But what is
residential weatherization and why is it
important. This talk will focus on four topics
related to residential weatherization (1) the
data behind home energy usage and how
weatherizing a typical home can reduce its energy
consumption (2) the definition of the building
envelope, the first step in understanding how to
create a more comfortable and efficient
home (3) how to identify flaws in the building
envelope, with demonstrations on the main pieces
of equipment typically used to analyze the
home--the blower door and the infrared camera
and (4) the best ways to correct these flaws in
the building envelope to create a more
comfortable, more efficient home.
