ure for Business-related courses PS Admission
criteria will vary across different polytechnics
and courses
37
Polytechnic Admission
  • Newspaper articles on poly admission
  • Average students losing out as JC-qualified kids
head for polys (Sandra Davie, ST, 12/3/07, p3)
  • Check cutoff grades before applying to school
(Alvin Sim Khim Woon, ST Forum, 12/3/07, p10)
  • O-level aggregate below 20 points not selected
for popular courses (Ng Moi Min, WB, 9/3/07, p8)

38
Polytechnic Admission
WB it was getting increasingly difficult for
O-level students with aggregate scores just below
20 points to get places in the polys in recent
year ST observed that admission to popular
courses were becoming more competitive, noting
that the cut off point for Ngee Ann Polytechnics
mass communications had fallen to 11 points this
year from 13 last year.
39
Polytechnic Admission
WB noted that the cut-off points for many courses
listed on the polys JAE website were below 12,
such as life sciences, tourism and digital media.
Ngee Ann Polytechnics Diploma in Psychology
Community Services, Spore Polytechnics
Tourism Resort Management had cut-off points of
9 10 respectively. WB also noted MOE saying
that admission to the polys was based on
individual students merit. Even if the student
had reached the minimum admission criteria for
the course, the demand for the individual courses
would determine whether the student would be
finally admitted.
