One Team, Two Topics
  • ECN Engineering Control of Noise
  • ACCRAS Amplification and Connection of
    Conference Room Audio System

6
ILE ECN Description
  • Engineering Control of Noise
  • Converse with the residents to obtain an end-user
evaluation of the current difficulties present in
    the listening environment.
  • Measure the sound levels at multiple locations
    during meal hours.
  • Identify problem areas where noise levels
decrease the signal-to-noise ratio at the diners
ear and make speech intelligibility difficult.
  • Design and test engineering controls to decrease
noise levels, thus increasing the signal-to-noise
    ratio and increasing speech intelligibility.
  • By meeting these objectives, we hope to improve
the listening environment of the dining rooms at
    UPRC.

7
Current State - ECN
  • Currently, we have completed the following
  • Set out questionnaires asking for the resident
opinion on their listening environments in the
dining room and at UPRC in general
  • Identified the areas in which we will sample and
    evaluate the noise levels.
  • Noise Sampling for the noise levels
  • Recommendations for possible trouble areas and
devices to correct these problem areas will be
    completed.
  • A full report will be issued to UPRC to outline
our recommendations and explain the measurements
    that were taken.

ACCRAS Description
  • Amplification and Connection of Conference Room
    Audio System
  • Survey the current available equipment
  • Link the systems so that they are able to work
together when the room divider is removed.
  • Research assistive listening devices (ALDs) that
will pair with the sound systems in these rooms
to aid those with hearing impairments.
  • Provide UPRC with a cost/benefit analysis for the
    suggested ALDs.
  • Should they be purchased, implement the use of
    aforementioned ALDs.

10
Current State - ACCRAS
  • Currently, we have completed the following
  • Surveyed the current equipment
  • Offered a solution to connecting the two separate
sound systems in the conference rooms
  • Researched assistive listening
  • devices (ALDs)
  • Recommendations on methods to connect the sound
systems have been made and will be reported to
UPRC the end of the semester.
  • Recommendations for Assistive Listening Devices
that could interface with the current system will
    also be recommended.

11
Continuity Plan
  • Recruit 2-4 member project team
  • Students with majors or interests in Audiology
    and Industrial Hygiene
  • Pass on reports to next team to follow plan for
    the next semesters
