Mummification?Wrapping the Mummy
Egyptian mummification is the process of
preparing the preservation of the dead body
either animal or human.
First the head and neck are wrapped by strips of
lien. After that the fingers along with toes are
individually wrapped. Once that is done the
arms and legs are wrapped separately. Between
layers of wrapping the embalmers place amulets
for protection against evil spirits for their
journey to the underworld.
5
While the mummy is being prepared a priest
reads aloud while the mummy is being wrapped. The
words read out by the priest are spells that will
fend off the evil spirits.
It its attached with strips of linen that run
from the bottom to the top of the mummy and also
around the mummys middle.
Once the arms and legs are tied together a
scroll made of papyrus is set in between the two
of the mummies wrapped hands. After that more
linen strips are wrapped around the body. At each
layer a glue-like liquid is painted on to help
keep bandages glued together. Then a big cloth is
wrapped around the body and the image of Osiris,
god of the underworld, is painted on its
surface. That is not yet the end to all the hard
work. A huge cloth is wrapped around the entire
body.
6
Then a wooden, painted board is placed on top of
the mummy before the once living body is lowered
into the coffin. The first coffin is then placed
into a second one. The funeral is soon held and
the family mourns the death of the loved one. A
ritual is performed after the funeral and it is
called the Opening of the Mouth"
7
Opening of the Mouth. This enables the deceased
to eat and drink once again. After that many
procedures that they have taken the mummy in its
coffins is placed in side a large stone that is
called a sarcophagus .
That all is placed in side a tomb where furniture
and many other important personal objects are put
inside for the mummy. After much awaited time his
body is ready for the journey through the
underworld. That is where his heart will soon be
judged by his good doings on earth. If his heart
is pure he will be sent to live for all eternity
in the gorgeous Field of Reeds!

CANOPIC JARS
While being mummified the organs of the mummy
were often placed in hallow, empty canopic jars
to dry. Later on at about 1000 B.C. the dried
organs were usually place back inside the body of
the mummy. If that was the case then the empty
canopic jars were placed in the mummy,s tomb.

TOMBS
All tombs have a tunnel. The tombs in Egypt all
have decorations and different neteru which are
angels of god that are guiding the dead person
through. The tombs were not built for public
viewing. Some Tombs of the royal tombs were
called mastabas which were surrounded by pyramids.
