Visual Merchandising Internship
From May 2008 to August 2008 I was the Visual
Merchandising Intern at What to Wear clothing
boutique in Traverse City, Michigan. During my
internship I was responsible for completing a
number of learning objectives, including the
design and production of a large window
display, interior visual merchandising, sales
event preparation, dressing mannequins
and dimensional forms, sitting in on a
buying function, as well as developing my public
relations skills.

Visual Merchandising Internship
These pictures are examples of visual
merchandising that I did within the store.
Throughout the construction of the large window
display and interior displays I was able to
apply what I have learned about the design
elements and principles in an eclectic way that
conveyed the mood of What to Wear.

Visual Merchandising Internship
These pictures are of the large window display I
designed and constructed for The National Cherry
Festival in Traverse City.
9
Visual Merchandising
Principles and practices of effective merchandise
presentation and display including techniques,
resources and evaluation. Along with two group
members, I created this institutional window
display that promoted Starbucks Shared Planet
concept which enforces ethical sourcing,
environmental stewardship and community
involvement.
10
Visual Merchandising
This environmental setting display was created
to show an assortment of various related items in
a setting depicting how and where they may be
used. Along with two group members, we
designed and constructed this window display for
Target, called Sweet Settings, for Valentines
Day.
11
Visual Merchandising
This promotional window display for The Beat
perfume by Burberry was designed by myself and
two group members.
12
Fashion Merchandising
Introduction to the merchandising function,
while focusing on fashion as a process and
product. Examining the fashion cycle, fashion
production, distribution and adoption.
13
Fashion Merchandising
Through trend research, these trend boards
were created to display the color, fabrication
and mood for Spring 2009 womens wear.
14
Retail Buying
Fundamentals of the fashion buying function
practices, procedures, and techniques
including merchandising calculations and computer
applications.
I completed this six month plan for the womens
denim department at GAP. I determined the
average stock and sales figures for the
department based on monthly and annual figures.
After completing the plan I wrote this memo,
which analytically explains the figures
determined.

Computer Aided Design
Introduction of computer software systems used to
develop and produce apparel and textile
designs Adobe Illustrator Adobe Photoshop
18
Computer Aided Design
This assignment focused on using design and
style elements to create a womens summer line,
while using a childrens book as inspiration. I
choose to focus on the colors used in the book
Shoe Baby. I created a color palette that
consists of three prints and five solids, which
were incorporated into each garment.
19
Advanced Computer Aided Design
Through the Kaledo Print software I modified the
original textile print on the left by cleaning,
correcting for repeats, and creating three new
colorways, as seen below.
20
Advanced Computer Aided Design
Through using Kaledo Style, Kaledo Print, and
Kaledo Weave I designed a line collection for
womens summer wear. Here are a few of the
garments I created mapped with the prints that I
designed.
21
Textile Analysis
Through conducting standardized tests and
analyzing the results, I determined textile
properties and appropriateness for end-use. This
data sheet was produced through using the Instron
Machine, to determine the fabrics breaking
strength.
22
Textile Analysis
The technical data sheet on the left was created
to illustrate the results of ten selected tests
completed throughout the course to determine
appropriateness for the end-use. The cutting
layout on the right was also part of the project.

Environmental Studies Minor
Conservation of Natural Resources This paper
examined Biodiversity and Quality of Produce
Organically Grown vs. Conventionally
Grown. Through writing this paper I was able to
analyze the differences between organically grown
produce, versus conventionally grown. I was then
able to associate what I had learned with the
fashion industry and the growth of organic fibers
versus synthetics. The knowledge I have gained
throughout my Environmental Studies courses has
allowed me to gain a broader view
and understanding of the environment and how it
is effected by the retail industry. It has also
encouraged me to support sustainable
retailing. I have included the introduction
section of the paper as a brief summary of what
the entire study was about.

Environmental Economics This paper was written
to analyze economic concepts in relation to the
National Parks Conservation Association advocacy
for improved air quality in our national parks.
Throughout this course I was able to relate
environmental economic concepts to the retail
industry, gaining a better understanding of what
effects the industry has on the environment as
well as economics. The following is a
summary of the five page report.
