Title: Accessible Presentations Made Easy
1Accessible PresentationsMade Easy
2This is a short tutorial for creating an
accessible text version of your presentation in
PowerPoint using the Outline feature.
3Why bother?
- Outlining helps organize your content and makes
for clearer presentations. - It creates a text alternative for those who dont
have or cant use PowerPoint - Some Web users are still on slow connections and
cannot download large ppt files - Text files are accessible to people with vision
and motor impairments PowerPoint is not.
4Heres how
51. Open the Outline tab in the left-hand column
62. Type in some text. It will appear as a
headline on the corresponding slide.
7 3. Hit enter to start the next slide.
84. To add text to the body of a slide, hit
CTRLenter
- That creates a bullet point
- Additional enter actions add bullets
95. Continue to outline your presentation in this
manner
106. When youre done, you can go back and
- Format text with fonts, colors, etc.
- Add shapes
- Add graphics
- Etc.
11You may also wish to use the notes panel
- To add narration that will play in synch with the
slides - To add explanatory or footnote text
12When youre all done
- Highlight all the text in the outline panel
- Copy the text to the clipboard (CTRL-C)
- Create a new file in any word processing program
- Paste in the text (CTRL-V)
- Save the file in plain text (.txt) format.
13Congratulations!
- Youve just created an accessible version of your
PowerPoint presentation! The Sea Grant Webmaster
can now easily convert it for use on the Web.
