8Our Responsibility for the Railway Sector
- Covers the entire rail sector including
underground and light-rail systems. - Means that Banverket shall work towards the
fulfillment of transport policy goals. - Entails overall responsibility for the
development of tracks, vehicles, traffic,
organization and transport capacity.

- We are responsible for rail traffic in Sweden.
- We follow and conduct development in the railway
sector. - We assist Parliament and the Government with
railway issues. - We are responsible for the operation and
management of state track installations. - We co-ordinate the local, regional and
inter-regional railway services. - We provide support for research and development
in the rail sector.

- Large parts of the city must be moved due to the
mining industry - The ore field has caused gigantic deformation
zones - The zones expands every year
- The new railway must be ready no later than 2012

20Project Ådalen Line
- Will create a strong railway chain for rapid
trains and effective goods transportations - Existing railway 100 years old
- Consists of 180 km track with low technical
standard and sharp bends - Includes both improvement of existing track and
new railway

21Project Hallandsås
- Existing railway opened 1885
- Today's railway sharp bends and difficult
elevations - 1991 - Decision to build a tunnel
- 1997 The project stops due to environment issue
- Will handle more than the double quantities as a
four lane freeway

22Project City Tunneln
- The Citytunnel will create a fast and efficient
connection track between the Southern Trunk Line
and the Öresund Link - A total of 17 km electrified railway through
Malmö - 6 km of which in two parallel tunnels under
central Malmö - The project started in 2005

23Project Stockholm Link
- Today - 550 train per day and extremely
vulnerable to disturbance - The new link will admit more train during peak
time and will shorten travelling time - Separate commuter train from goods train and long
distance traffic - Two new track in a tunnel under Stockholm city
and two new commuter stations
