3Background
- Caritas has been providing assistance to Iraqis
since its establishment in 1994, - however in 2002, a project for Humanitarian
assistance to extremely vulnerable Iraqis - in Lebanon started.

6Beneficiaries
- Refugees and asylum seekers having escaped
from their country because of persecution mainly
Iraqis, Sudanese, Somali, Palestinian - Migrant workers

8Problems faced by Iraqis in Lebanon
- Illegal entry
- No residence permit and therefore not legally
authorized to work. - Because the vast majority of Iraqi refugees work
illegally in Lebanon, abuse and exploitation in
the workplace. - No adequate payment or work in unsafe conditions.
- Detention.
- Some children (minors) work in the informal
economy in order to supplement family income. - Risk of deportation if arrested
- Medical problems chronic diseases
- Mental problems
- Difficulty in education because of the difference
of levels between Iraq and Lebanon thus school
rupture
9- In order to answer the needs, Caritas Migrant
center is providing the following services
10Social work approach
- 1st interview in the office or at home social
form - If in the office, home visit to meet all the
members of the family and assess needs - Weekly team meeting to discuss the cases
- Decision taken and delivered
- Urgent cases are processed without waiting the
home visit or the team meeting - Regular home visits

- Inpatient medical care
- Hospitalization surgeries, deliveries, treatment
- Cases are referred to Government hospitals,
however when treatments are not available,
Caritas has special contacts with the private
sector

- Medication Caritas medical centers, Pharmacy
that gives CLMC discount of 18 - Consultation
- Reference to caritas medical centers in the
different regions - To outpatient clinics of the public hospitals
- Sometimes to private clinics
- Lab exams,
- Radiology to public hospitals and private
laboratory with whom CLMC has agreement for
special prices

- Health insurance
- Through this program, Iraqi refugees are able to
reach medical care in a worthy way. - They benefit from inpatient medical care and from
laboratory and radiology services throughout the
year. - They can benefit each year from
- 4 hospital entries each time covering USD 2500
- and 3 medical exams insurance covers 85 of the
price and the beneficiary the remaining 15.
