Title: Global Facts

1
Global Facts
  • Around the world, with more and more land being
used for human infrastructure, there is less
chance for the water to be filtered as it passes
through watersheds, therefore many of our
watersheds are becoming stressed and can no
    longer clean the water.
  • Overuse and poor use of our water resources is
resulting in worldwide contamination and lack of
    fresh water.
  • Many aquifers around the world are diminishing as
increasing demand for water rises and many
countries are running out of fresh clean water.
  • To learn more go to our fun facts page!

2
Cars Trucks and Busses
  • Automobiles are becoming increasingly frequent
because of the way our cities and towns are so
    spread out
  • They add pollution to the air, land and water
including oil, gas, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen
    dioxide.
  • Cars impact the environment in many ways, and
    they harm watersheds specifically.

3
Farms
  • Farming is an important industry because this is
    where our food comes from
  • Farms contribute up to two-thirds of all
    non-point source pollution
  • This is in the form of pesticides, herbicides,
    fertilizer, and sediments
  • Find out more how each of these can harm our
    watersheds.

4
Church Street
  • Church Street is the heart of Burlington.
  • Many people gather here, but along with many
    people and businesses comes pollution.
  • The pollution is in the form of runoff and trash.

5
Point Sources of Pollution
  • A pollution point source is any area where
contamination entering an area can be precisely
    located
  • This includes the wastewater treatment plant and
any industry or business that dumps pollutants
    directly into a waterway.
  • This pollution is easier to regulate than
    non-point pollution.
