• This project supports NASA education goals to
  inspire the next generation of explorers. This
  project is supported by the University of
  Maryland Eastern Shore and NASAs Code 972

• The mission objectives of the Undergraduate
  Multidisciplinary Earth Science - Airborne
  Instrumentation Research (UMES-AIR) project are
  to Develop, test and operate a tethered blimp
  borne imaging system useful for Earth Science
  related observations. Specifically, the
  instrument payload systems includes multiple
  downward viewing video cameras and selectable
  filters to image the surface below. Image
  analysis is conducted to identify and quantify
  features of interest including vegetation,
  topography, buildings, roads, etc.

• Primary support is from the NASA Code 972.
  Students from UMES provide the Blimp, winch,
  payload and all ground support equipment.Code 972
  provides the flight safety plan.
• The overall budget for the project is under 100K.
