• The ways that organisations use ICT to access and
  exchange information
• Be able to suggest improvements to the ICT for a
  fictitious company

  gives details about a fictitious company
• Using that information you will prepare an
  information flow diagrams before the exam in May
• Write a short essay on a given topic Januarys
  theme is teleworking. Who knows what Mays theme
  will be!

• YOU have 3 tasks to complete for the case study
• Task 1 You carry out research and make CLEAR
  notes
• These notes will be taken into the exam to help
  you answer the questions
• There are 6 sub tasks for Task 1

• For task 2 you have to produce an information
  flow diagramThis is worth 15 marks
• The diagram is taken into the exam and submitted
  with your notes for marking by the examiner
• We can practice on Januarys information flow!

  words
• This is also submitted with your notes and
  information flow diagram
• It can be very difficult to get your thoughts
  across in 500 words

• Banking organisations

• Some sell services
• E.g. Nursing homes sell care facilities / food /
  accommodation
• Banks sell banking facilities charges / loans /
  overdrafts

• Industrial organisations (Profit making)
• Prime function To manufacture products, process
  raw materials or construction
• E.g. They make something from something else
• Many industrial organisations make goods from
  components
• E.g. Car manufactures, household appliance
  manufacturers, computer manufacturers

• Hospitals
• Schools
• Colleges
• Funded by central government through taxes

• Public Service Organisations (Non - Profit
  making)
• Prime Function To provide services and goods
  from public funds
• Profit is not always an aim
• Main aim is to obtain maximum benefits for the
  public so must keep costs down
• All types of organisations have turned to ICT to
  help efficiency

• Within most organisations, there will be staff
  who are responsible for carrying out particular
  tasks
• These task and responsibilities are know as job
  functions
• In small organisations one person may be
  responsible for more than one job function
• Large organisations will have a department for
  each function
• A department is a group of people performing a
  particular job under the direction of a
  department manager

• It is important that you understand the basic
  functions of each so that you can apply your
