OBJECTIVE

• In the following presentation Students will learn
  some of the basic tools needed to do Electrical
  work around the home or farm.

uses of the following Tools

• Circuit tester

SCREWDRIVER

• PHILLIPS

• Slotted or Flathead

Screwdrivers are used to connect wire to
receptacles, switches, lights,etc.Screwdrivers
are also used to install and remove switches,
receptacles, plate and panel covers.

NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS

Needle nose pliers can be used to bend wire.
They also can be used cut smaller diameter wire.

WIRESTRIPPERS

Wire strippers are used to remove insulation
from wire. NOTE-the different size openings for
the different size wire.

HAMMER

Hammers are used to install plastic receptacle
and switch boxes.

TAPE MEASURE

A tape measure is used in the placement of
different type boxes. Ex A light switch might
be 42 from the floor or a receptacle might
measure 16 from the floor.

DRILL AND BITS
A CORDLESS DRILL AND SPADE BITS ARE PREFERED

When running wire through walls or block, a drill
may be needed.

Circuit Tester

Use a circuit tester to check and see if
electricity is flowing from one area to another.
If there is, the small light will come on.

A Multi-meter has many uses

• MEASURES VOLTAGE
• MEASURES RESISTANCE IN CIRCUIT
• MEASURES WATTAGE

UTILITY KNIFE

A utility knife or pocket knife might be used to
cut away insulation or cut small diameter wire.

LINESMAN PLIERS OR SIDECUTTERS

Side cutters or Linesman pliers are used to cut
and bend larger diameter wire.
