Loved, Chosen, Saved, Sanctified and Glorified
  • 2Thessalonians 213-17

Presented by Bob DeWaay December, 17 2006
2

Saved From The Lie Through Faith in the Truth
  • 2Thessalonians 213
  • But we should always give thanks to God for you,
brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has
chosen you from the beginning for salvation
through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in
    the truth.

3

Gods Love and Election
  • Deuteronomy 76-8b
  • For you are a holy people to the Lord your God
the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people
for His own possession out of all the peoples who
are on the face of the earth. The Lord did not
set His love on you nor choose you because you
were more in number than any of the peoples, for
you were the fewest of all peoples, but because
the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He
    swore to your forefathers,

Chosen From the Beginning
  • 2Thessalonians 213
  • But we should always give thanks to God for you,
brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has
chosen you from the beginning for salvation
through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in
    the truth.

5

Chosen To Be The Lords
  • Deuteronomy 2618
  • And the Lord has today declared you to be His
people, a treasured possession, as He promised
you, and that you should keep all His
    commandments
  • LXX eilato (chosen)
  • 2Thess. 213 Greek eilato (chosen)

6
Before the Foundation of the World
  • Ephesians 14-6
  • just as He chose us in Him before the foundation
of the world, that we should be holy and
blameless before Him. In love He predestined us
to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to
Himself, according to the kind intention of His
will, to the praise of the glory of His grace,
which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

Gods Work to Save and Sanctify A People through
Faith
  • 2Thessalonians 213
  • But we should always give thanks to God for you,
brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has
chosen you from the beginning for salvation
through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in
    the truth.

8
The Called Ones Will be Glorified
  • 2Thessalonians 214
  • It was for this He called you through our
gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord
    Jesus Christ.

9
The Called Ones Will be Glorified
  • Romans 830
  • and these whom He predestined, He also called
and these whom He called, He also justified and
these whom He justified, He also glorified.

10
Traditions Apostolic Teachings
  • 2Thessalonians 215
  • So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the
traditions which you were taught, whether by word
of mouth or by letter from us.
  • 2Thessalonians 36b
  • . . .you keep away from every brother who leads
an unruly life and not according to the tradition
    which you received from us.

11

Pauls Prayer for the Church
  • 2Thessalonians 216, 17
  • Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God
our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal
comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and
strengthen your hearts in every good work and
    word.

12
Applications
  • Understand the relationship between the universal
and effectual call of the Gospel
  • We must do and say what is good and not be
embittered because of evil and persecution.

13
The Universal Call
  • John 737
  • Now on the last day, the great day of the feast,
Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone is
thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who
believes in Me, as the Scripture said, From his
innermost being will flow rivers of living
    water.

14
The Universal Call
  • Acts 1730, 31
  • Therefore having overlooked the times of
ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all
people everywhere should repent, because He has
fixed a day in which He will judge the world in
righteousness through a Man whom He has
appointed, having furnished proof to all men by
    raising Him from the dead.

15
Many Who are Called in the Universal Sense
Reject the Call
  • John 319
  • This is the judgment, that the Light has come
into the world, and men loved the darkness rather
than the Light, for their deeds were evil.

16
God Will Reject No One Who Responds in Faith to
the Call
  • John 637
  • All that the Father gives Me will come to Me,
and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not
    cast out.

17
Called as Applied to Believers
  • Hebrews 915
  • For this reason He is the mediator of a new
covenant, so that, since a death has taken place
for the redemption of the transgressions that
were committed under the first covenant, those
who have been called may receive the promise of
    the eternal inheritance.

18
The Effectually Called Respond
  • John 1026 - 28
  • But you do not believe because you are not of My
sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them,
and they follow Me and I give eternal life to
them, and they will never perish and no one will
snatch them out of My hand.

19
The Universal Call is not in Contradiction to the
Effectual Call
  • John 737b
  • Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone is
thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
  • John 644
  • No one can come to Me unless the Father who
sent Me draws him and I will raise him up on the
    last day.

20
Those who Hear the Inward Call Respond and Have
Eternal Life
  • John 639, 40
  • This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of
all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but
raise it up on the last day. For this is the will
of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son
and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I
Myself will raise him up on the last day.

21
Keep a Good Heart and Tongue in These Evil Days
  • James 119, 20
  • This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone
must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to
anger for the anger of man does not achieve the
    righteousness of God.

22
We Must Be Kind in Word and Deed Because God was
Kind to Us
  • Titus 32, 3
  • remind them to malign no one, to be peaceable,
gentle, showing every consideration for all men.
For we also once were foolish ourselves,
disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts
and pleasures, spending our life in malice and
    envy, hateful, hating one another.
