Life Cycle
  • Mate in fall
  • Bull fight for female its called bullfights
  • Fussy about birth place
  • In spring have baby by herself
  • Born with skinny legs
  • Grows quickly
  • Can run as fast as 35 mph
  • Lives to be 20 years old

Habitat/Shelter
  • Northern Scandinavia and eastward through Siberia
  • North America, Canada, Alaska, Utah, Colorado,
    Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North
    Dakota
  • Lakes and streams
  • Wanders from place to place does not have a
    shelter
  • Difficult when temperature rises above 80 degrees
  • Needs to be near water in summer to cool off

Diet
  • Twigs, water lilies, bark
  • Chews bark and twig off trees
  • Dips nose in water to tear off lilies
  • Sometimes in winter get in groups to dig up roots
    and plants
  • Drinks moms milk
  • Bushes, trees, buds, tender shoots, mountain maple

Adaptations
  • Poor eye sight, good senses, ears help it sense
    danger
  • Strong swimmers
  • Swim as fast as six miles an hour in water
  • Bell a flap of skin that hangs down from throat
  • Antlers grow bigger when born
  • In early winter antlers drop off
  • In spring new set grows
  • First fuzzy skin grows on
  • In July they can rub it off using tree
  • 6 feet tall and 1,200 pounds
  • Calfs color is reddish brown
