Title: Fairy Tale Adventures

1
Fairy Tale Adventures
  • Welcome to the world of fairy tales. On your
journey around this land you will discover many
strange happenings. Each time you will need to
use your science to help the characters with
    their difficulties.

2
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • Well, hopefully that is the last we will see of
her! exclaimed Mother Bear as she watched
    Goldilocks flee over the hill.
  • But Im still thirsty, complained Baby Bear.
  • Oh well, said Daddy Bear. Mother can fix the
chair, Ill fix the bed and you, Baby Bear, can
make us all a nice cup of tea.
  • After Mother Bear had fixed the chair and Daddy
Bear had fixed the bed, the three bears sat down
    to drink their tea.

3
  • One sugar for me, said Mother Bear as she
heaped two spoonfuls into her middle-sized mug,
gave the spoon a quick stir and then lifted it
    straight to her mouth.
  • Two for me, said Daddy Bear, pouring a large
spoonful into his massive cup and stirring it so
hard that tea flew around the room.
  • Three for me, declared Baby Bear as he trickled
three spoonfuls into the middle of his tiny cup.

4
  • Wow, what a lovely cup of tea, exclaimed Father
    Bear.
  • Mine isnt very nice at all, complained Baby
Bear. Can I have some of your tea?
  • Dont be so silly, Baby Bear. It all came out
the same pot, so it will taste exactly the same.
Now go and get yourself ready for bed.

Can you help Baby Bear to find out which types of
things (factors) might make the tea taste
different?
5
Jack and the Beanstalk
  • You must be kidding, exclaimed Gina as she
gazed up below the spreading leaves of Jacks
    beanstalk.
  • How did he do that? I cant even make a plant
grow by a centimetre! complained Tim.
  • The two children continued to stand, staring at
the giant plant with their hand stuffed in their
pockets and their shoulders sagging towards the
ground. All of a sudden, a man appeared from
nowhere. Can I be of any help? he asked,
smiling widely beneath his large red hat.

6
  • Not unless you know much about growing plants,
    replied Tim.
  • Carefully, the strange-looking man pulled a
small, shiny bag from his cloak. Funny you
should say that, he said as he pulled from the
bag an ordinary looking plant. Now, if you two
clever children can just work out what this plant
needs to have in order to grow really large, than
I will let you have it. With that said, there
was a puff of yellow smoke and the man had
disappeared as quick as he had arrived.

Can you help the children make a plant that will
have all that it needs to grow as big as possible?

The Princess and the Pea
  • This is a real pain! exclaimed the Princess.
Must I always sleep on this pea? It gives me
    such backache!
  • Yes, I am afraid you must. If I were to remove
the pea I am scared that we will be cursed with
bad luck, replied her handsome Prince.
  • If that is the case, then is there nothing that
we can do to make it more comfortable? asked the
Princess rubbing her back with her hand.
  • Well I could go and ask the advice of the
castles scientists. They are all ever-son
clever. I am sure that they will have some
ideas, announced the Prince who then turned
swiftly on the spot and began to climb the steep,
stone stairs to the highest room in the castle
where the scientists had their laboratory.

Little Red Riding Hood
  • Are you ok? asked Grandma, pouring Little Red
Riding Hood a nice, warm cup of tea.
  • Ithink...so.., she replied, trying desperately
to catch her breath. It was that horrible wolf
again. Its lucky that I am such a quick runner or
he would definitely gobble me up.
  • Just then there was a bang at the window. It was
the wolf. He was standing just a few inches from
the pane, licking his lips and smiling a very
large grin. Slowly, he licked his tongue across
    the length of his lips.

9
  • Right, I have had enough of this, declared
Grandma. I will buy you a pet. But no ordinary
pet. This animal will have everything it needs to
survive in these woods and will guide you safely
to my house when you come to visit.
  • But where can you get such an animal? asked
    Little Red Riding Hood.
  • From the scientists of course, she declared as
she hobbled over to the pigeon which she kept in
a cage in the corner of the room. I will send a
    message immediately!

10
Cinderella
  • Cinderella sat gazing down at her foot on which
sat the shiny glass slipper. Please dont think
me ungrateful or rude, but does it have to be
glass? Yes it is pretty and shiny, but I am so
scared that it will break. Could we at least ask
the scientists to explore other types of
materials and let us know which would be best?
