Who We Are
  • Naval Station Newport is the Navys Center for
    Learning Excellence.
  • There are 42 tenant commands on the base
    including the Naval War College Surface Warfare
    Officers School Officers Training Command the
    Naval Academy Preparatory School and the Naval
    Justice School.
  • Seventy percent of all Naval Officers will enroll
    in a school at NAVSTA Newport during their
    careers.
  • Naval Station Newport is the landlord. Our job
    is to make sure that the tenant commands have the
    facilities, security, infrastructure and support
    necessary to accomplish their missions.
  • We directly support the tenants with on-base
    living accommodations, food support with the Ney
    Hall Galley and recreational alternatives through
    our Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department.

Naval Station Growth
  • As a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and
    Closure Decision Naval Station Newport is
    increasing in the overall number of commands on
    base and overall population
  • Naval Supply Corps School and Center for Service
    Support (249 students/200 employees).
  • Consolidate 3 RI Army Reserve Centers (34 full
    time employees)
  • Officer Candidate School has already moved from
    Pensacola to Newports Officer Training Command.
    (207 students/70 employees)
  • Naval Undersea Warfare Center consolidations (164
    employees)
  • Upgrades to facilities are being planned.
  • Upgrades to infrastructures are ongoing.

Naval Station Master Plan
  • A base master plan is in the process of being
    completed to serve as a guide for site
    development, efficient facilities utilization,
    sustainable development and land use over the
    next 25 years.
  • The document is expected to be completed later in
    the spring and we anticipate it will
  • Envision Naval Station as a Center for Training
    Excellence
  • Take into account real estate constraints within
    the current fence-line
  • Address the issue of student billeting shortfall
  • Incorporate force protection concerns
  • Emphasize energy efficiency

    rehabilitation
