Early Life
  • Deborah Sampson was born on December 17th, 1760.
  • Deborah had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She had a
    mother and father. Deborah also had a
    grandmother and grandfather.
  • When Deborah was 10 years old, she was an
    indentured servant until the age 18.

Deborahs Part in the War
  • Deborah Sampson was a patriot.
  • During the American Revolution, Deborah disguised
    herself as a man so she could serve with the
    Massachusetts Troops.

  • One of the reasons Deborah wanted to fight in the
    war was because Deacon Thomass two sons were
    killed fighting in the war.
  • Deborahs grandmother may have had an influence
    on Deborahs decision to disguise herself as a
    boy. Captain Simeon Sampson is also believed to
    have had an influence on Deborahs decision to
    disguise herself as a man so she could fight in
    the war with the soldiers.
