9Who, What, When Where and
- Who Moodle
- What Moodle is an Open Source Learning
Management System - When We are piloting Moodle for the Office of
eLearning, Office of Leadership, and Office of
Transportation - Where -- Across the state for educators, bus
drivers, coaches with CDE licenses, etc
10Why --
- We began evaluating our LMS about 2 years ago to
determine the TCO, Total Cost of Ownership - Finding
- We needed to look at open source solutions due to
cost effectiveness and determine if the product
could produce our expected outcomes - We looked at many different systems, Listed below
are a few
- Desire 2 Learn
- Blackboard
- Angel
- Moodle
- Sakai
- Get Course-Work
11Moodle Projected Outcomes
- We are testing Moodle for the 2009-2010 school
year - Possible Projected Outcomes
- Convert all programs to Moodle to reduce the cost
of our LMS Moodle is ¼ the cost of the current
LMS system cost - Host it externally for the first year and then
determine the pros and cons of bringing Moodle in
house - Currently we have run the Spring and Summer
eLearning SC PD courses in Moodle - Summer 09 we will add 3 SCVSP courses to Moodle
- Fall 09 run all eLearningSC PD and SCVSP courses
through Moodle
12Moodle URL
- http//scde.mrooms.org/
- We have created videos and documents to assist
online participants with utilizing the new system
13Feedback from Online Participants and Teachers
- The transition to Moodle for me as an instructor
was seamless. The content is cleaner and easier
to locate for online participants. - Moodle was more user friendly after I understood
how to navigate through the site. I didn't see
any major changes though learning how to navigate
through Moodle was adjustment
14Feedback from Online Participants and Teachers
- Moodle is so user friendly and I am excited about
all of the new features that enhance courses. - I know users will find it easy and I look forward
to further work with it. - The set up and functions of Moodle took some
getting used to after having previously used
Blackboard but it wasn't a big adjustment. - Blackboard was more difficult to navigate around
in. Once I used Moodle, it was much more
intuitive for me. - I like the layout of Moodle better more user
friendly

18New this yearOffice of Transportation with an
online presence
- Each bus driver is required to complete a minimum
of 10 hours of in-service every year to maintain
their certification as a school bus driver - Traditionally the training has been done in a
classroom setting or through meetings in an
auditorium but the Office of Transportation has
implemented a pilot program to reach additional
bus drivers - With the new online in-service opportunity, bus
drivers now have a flexible option for their
in-Service requirements

course for new drivers as well.

educators in South Carolina. We have built a
