What are we beingtold by employers?
Older people are less likely to want to take
up learning at work
Older people are harder to train, many staff at
50 have their relevant qualifications, what can
we train them on?
It is poor investment to train older people,
they have fewer years left to work
6
What do we need to be telling employers?.........
...
People over 50 are severely underrepresented in
the current cohort receiving training.
One third of non pensioner adults are over 50,
but only represent one tenth of adults in work
related training
The average time spent with one employer for
someone over 50 is over 10 years, compared
to 2/3 years for someone aged 20
7
YOUTH ENDS AT 49!
  • National survey of age related prejudice showed
    on average
  • Old age begins at 65
  • 29 of people in survey reported experiencing age
    discrimination
  • Age Concern are training a group of advisers who
will work with employers to support the age
    legislation implementation. This will encourage
employers to actively recruit older workers.
  • Survey complied for University of Kent and Age
    Concern
