General technical aspects of the course
  • Collocation optional module in the introductory
    stage of Master for International Business and
    Economic Cooperation (MIBEC - University of Bari)

Aims and purposes
  • To assess students general level of knowledge of
    Italian language
  • To offer some concrete means for communication,
    therefore a better integration in the Italian
    environment
  • To focus on the main specific contents and
    structures of the business-and-administration
    variety of Italian language

Main steps of the module
  • Step 1 Speaking, listening and understanding
    Italian language a first training and assessment
    of knowledge

  • Step 2 Galateo della comunicazione scritta
    possible approaches and training in written
    language (general contents)
  • (Duration 10 hours)
  • Step 3 Manuale dellitaliano professionale
    reading, understanding and producing short
    business-and-administration texts in Italian
    language (both oral and written samples)

Activities of step 1

    Reading and listening to role plays about the
    basics of everyday life and communication
  • Essere e avere review of grammar basics (verb
    tenses, general lexicon, elements of syntaxis)
  • A comando o a invito? Reflections on linguistic
    behaviour (i.e. different uses of modals in
    requests, formal vs. informal linguistic contexts
    etc.)

  • Dalla frase al testo I review of the
    key-structures of text composition process
    (syntaxis, connectives, coordination and
    subordination of sentences, punctuation skills
    etc.)
  • Dalla frase al testo II First attempts of text
    composition - Production and coordination of
    few complex sentences through punctuation
    Building up a paragraph
  • Dentro e fuoritraccia how not to disattend
    the given topic in a composition

  • From Caro amico to Spettabile Ente short
    reflection on levels of formality in Italian
    language
  • Spa, Sas, Snc, Col patrocinio di
    examples of Italian Law,business and
    administration lexicon
  • Alla cortese attenzione di practice on reading
    and writing business texts (letters, invitations,
    application forms, business first contacts etc.)
  • Pericolo di burocratese possibilities to avoid
    frequent mistakes and too complicate patterns in
    business Italian

ASSESSMENT
  • Step 1 students will be requested to take part
    in role plays producing segments of speech with
    reference to some everyday communication
    contexts. If possible, part of this activities
    will take place out of the class (in the so
    called contesto di comunicazione reale)
  • Step 2 students will be requested to read and
    explain in their own words the contents of texts
    taken from different contexts (from everyday life
    to newspapers and tv to literary works).
    Subsequently, they will be requested to produce
    short texts belonging to the explained
    tipologies.
  • Step 3 students will be requested to read and
    explain in their own words the contents of some
    business and administrative texts, and then to
    reply with written texts, therefore to use
    elements of business Italian matching with
    specific chosen texts.
