Central Project Status
  • Contracts signed (4.7M)
  • Oracle will supply software
  • Sun supplying hardware (mostly in place).
  • Project team in place in RGO building, most
    building works completed, networking now
    functional.
  • Timetable
  • CRP team training 12-14 May
  • CRP 19 May to 14 June
  • User Acceptance team training 3-11 June
  • System design frozen 21 June
  • Acceptance testing 22 June - 3 August
  • End-user training 17 August on
  • Live on 18 October? (aiming for 28 Sept).

  • NT workgroup being established for team and as
    basis of operational system.
  • Working group looking at hardware implications
    for groups.
  • Minimum spec is known for Windows machines (200
    MHz, 64 Mb, NT4.0).
  • There will be a discount from certain suppliers!
  • Not clear yet if we can support Macs centrally.

  • Skills survey under way.
  • Department will provide pre-CAPSA training where
    necessary.
  • CAPSA training to be provided at RGO building by
    project.

  • Best Practices
  • Central team and steering group include an
    Auditor.
  • Goal is to promote Best Practices, in terms of
    accountability, transparency, security.
  • CAPSA will force us to examine all our
    administrative working practices.
  • Patty Blench chairing a working group to examine
    our current practices and to help formulate a set
    of guidelines for the Cavendish (more from Patty
    later).

  • Project Bible.
  • One for each part of the project (Department,
    central team function etc).
  • Basically represents our Project Plan.
  • Itemises
  • Scope and Objectives -- where the department is
    now and where we want to be.
  • Approach -- project organization, roles and
    responsibilities, milestones, controls.
  • Control and reporting -- Meetings, problem
    reporting.
  • Budget.
  • 50 page document, to be completed next week.
  • Will appear on the web (may be slightly censored
    to preserve confidentiality where necessary).

Final comments
  • Thanks to everyone for their help so far!
  • Massive project, at every level.
  • Vitally important that it works, both for the
    Department and for the University.
  • Pace is hotting up we will be asking you for
    more information, more often, and at shorter
    notice! Please continue to help us as much as you
    can.
  • Hope that by next Open Meeting we can show you
    some of the software/screens.
  • Please keep an eye on the project minutes and/or
    web-site, and keep your groups informed as much
    as you can.
  • My door is always open! I may not be there, but
    I will always respond to email and/or phone calls.
