1
SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Energy conversion
and materials, Partow P. Henriksen
  • On going actions relative to the topics of the
    workshop
  • EU-6. ENCAP.  Participated for development of
materials suitable for CLC, coal as fuel.
Cooperation with ALSTOM and IFP. Project is
    ending.
  • EU-6. CACHET. Participates for development of
materials suitable for CLC, NG as fuel.
    Cooperation with ALSTOM. 2007-2009
  • EU /Research fund for Coal and Steel. ECLAIR.
    Participates for development of materials
suitable for CLC, coal as fuel. Cooperation with
    ALSTOM. Starts 2008.
  • EU7- DECARBit. Participates for the development
of CO2 selective membrane, High temperature
    CO2-Chemis-sorbents, Ceramic Air separation
    membranes and high temperature O2-chemisorbents.
French partners are Air Liquide, IFP, Total and
    Corning (FR).
  • EU7- CESAR. Participates for the development of
    CO2-Chemisorbents for water gas shift.
  • Needs regarding the topics of the workshop
  • Establish up-scaled production technology for
    Pd-based membranes/modules to separate H2 from
Water gas shift gas mixtures and pilot plant for
    demonstration
  • Establish up-scaled production of ceramic
membranes for O2 and H2 separation
  • Establishing production technology for materials
and pilot facility for CLC and CLR demonstration
  • Ideas regarding projects to be launched
  • Up-scaling of Pd-based and ceramic membrane
technology (Production of membranes, modules and
    pilot testing)
  • CLC and CLR materials development for Solid fuels
and heavy oil. Including materials production for
    pilot testing.
  • Solid oxide fuel cell development based on
    ceramic proton conductors

SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Energy Conversion
and Materials, Partow P. Henriksen
  • Activities in SINTEF with relevance to the
    Workshop topics
  • Capture (Pre-capture / Post combustion /
    oxy-combustion processes)
  • Technologies under development are H2, O2, and
    CO2-selective membranes, CLC/CLR, One-step H2
    production, solid CO2-chemisorbents, Ceramic
Auto-thermal Recovery (CAR process for air
    separation) and liquid absorbents)
  • Storage (Storage integrity / performance
monitoring / well integrity /field labs, EOR)
  • Transport of CO2 (thermodynamics, large scale
    infrastructure,..)
  • SINTEF is operator of the BIGCO2,national CO2
research platform encompassing the BIGCLC and
BIGH2 projects and many industrial funded
projects. Within EU, SINTEF is managers of
ENCAP, co-ordinator of DYNAMIS and DECARBit- and
at present involved in 14 EU CCS RD projects. We
are member of the European Network of Excellence
on Membrane Technology (NanoMemPro) and WP-leader
for Sustainable Energy Systems). We are also
involved in the ZEP work through members in the
    WG1.
  • What are the plans and needs for further
    development of these activities
  • Development of materials for CLC / CLR, pilot
    testing with ALSTOM
  • Pilot demonstrations of Pd membranes for H2
    separation
  • Development of new and Up-scaling of production
technology for ceramic membrane O2, H2 and CO2
    separation
  • French/Norwegian collaboration FNS
  • Collaboration with French universities, research
institutes and companies since 1990. Mainly
funded by FNS and EU FP-projects.
  • FNS, Solid Oxide Fuel Cell. Norway Prototech,
UiO, NTNU. France CIRIMAT, EDF, LRRS, LLB.
    Expected start in 2008.
