• Aims and Objectives
• to test the IMS specifications through
  implementation and report the results back to the
  IMS community and
• to explore whether these specifications can be
  stretched to enable interoperability between
  three different JISC-funded Virtual Learning
  Environments (VLE)

• Exchange of Enterprise Data
• Enrolment data has been exchanged between all
  three VLEs.

• Exchange of Content Packages
• Content has been exchanged with Leeds
  Universitys Boddington Green and between the
  project partners.

Findings Recommendations

• Can Interoperability be Achieved by using IMS
  Specifications?
• IMS Specifications should be regarded as a
  framework rather than a lingua franca
• You cannot comply with the IMS specifications,
  you can only conform
• IMS does not guarantee interoperability, but it
  helps
