2Attendance Policy Ed Code 48200, 48290
- State law requires parent/guardians of children
ages 6 to 18 to send their children to school. - Once you enroll your child, you are obligated by
compulsory education laws to follow the
attendance policy.
3Reciprocal Communication
- Communication between school sites and parents is
key to student success and positive attendance. - Contact your school attendance office and
principal or vice principal regarding your
child's attendance concerns.
4District Absence Reporting Policy
- Parents receive 10 days each school year to
excuse their childs absences for illness without
medical verification. - Absences must be cleared with the school within
10 days or the absences will be coded unexcused. - School must be notified the first day of absence
and each day your student is absent.
5District Absence Reporting Policy
- Each parent may excuse up to 10 days without
providing verification of illness from a medical
professional or school employee. Anytime your
child has a doctors appointment and/or
documentation requiring them to stay home from
school, provide this immediately when your
student returns to school. These absences will be
recorded as verified and will not take away from
the 10 day parent excused limit.

- No more than three days (3) of absence in a row
is allowed for lice. - Illnesses
- Contagious conditions
- Temperature of 100 degrees
- Vomiting or diarrhea

- Other Absences
- Funeral services of immediate family 1 day
excused if in CA, 3 days if out of state. - Quarantine
- Medical, dental, optometric or chiropractic
services - Students child is ill or has a medical
appointment.

- You must obtain advanced approval from a
principle for the following reasons - Personal reasons
- Court appearance
- Religious holiday
- Religious ceremony

- All other absences are considered unexcused by law
10- Vacations and extended leave for family need or
personal reasons are not excusable absences. - Prior school administrator approval is required
for absences that are not for illness.
11Truancy Ed Codes 48260, 48273
- The State considers a student truant after an
accumulation of 3 days of unexcused absences or
the student is tardy 30 minutes or more 3 days in
one school year or a combination of unexcused
absences and over 30 minute tardies. - State law requires the district to notify
parents/guardians in writing when a student has
reached truancy status.
12Truancy Letters Ed Code 48260.5, 46011
- Attendance letters are computer generated.
- Attendance codes B, X, C, will generate letters.
- First letter is sent once 3 days of unexcused
absences occur. - Second letter is sent when an additional 2 days
of unexcused absences occur. - Third letter is sent upon 1 additional day of
unexcused absence.
13CWA Letters
- Ten days of illness without a doctors note
allowed. Parents must call the student in sick. - A letter will be mailed at 5 days to inform the
parent half of the number of days have been used. - A second letter will be mailed at 10 days to let
parents know that all the allowed number of fays
have been used. Any additional absences must have
a doctors note to be excused.
14SARB Conference Ed Code, 48320, 48325
- Failure to comply with attendance requirements
may result in a referral to SARB School
Attendance Review Board. - When a student is truant, the parents and the
child may be required to attend a meeting to
address and correct non-attendance patterns as
required by compulsory education laws.

- The purpose of the conference is to discuss the
childs attendance record and establish
directives to remedy attendance concerns. - This meeting is a legal proceeding. The goal is
to avoid referrals to legal authorities for
non-compliance with attendance laws.
