Partial Seizure
  • Simple specific to the affected area of brain
    without loss of consciousness
  • Psychic symptoms
  • Motor signs
  • Sensory symptoms
  • Autonomic signs or symptoms
  • Complex with loss of consciousness but person
    may remain aware of environment

Generalized Seizures
  • Absence (Petit Mal)
  • Typical - 10-30 seconds, come and go very quickly
  • Atypical same as typical, however longer and
    stronger
  • Myoclonic quick jerks of limb(s)
  • Tonic most often occurs during sleep, 10-15
    seconds of sustained muscle contraction

  • Tonic-clonic (Grand Mal)
  • Primary- 1-2 minutes, loss of consciousness,
    tonic contraction, clonic alteration of
    contraction and relaxation of muscles,
    fecal/urinary incontinence, and tongue biting
  • Secondary generalized primary tonic-clonic
    seizure but begins with simple or complex partial
    (presence of aura)
  • Atonic (drop attack) sudden loss of muscle tone
    causing drop to ground risking injury
  • Unclassified epileptic seizures (status
    epilepticus) Tonic-clonic lasting 30 minutes or
    reoccurrence without gaining consciousness
