procedures, statistics and data, major accidents,
and OSHA regulations, associated with lattice
cranes.
LATTICE CRANES
2Safety Concerns
- Overhead and falling object hazards
- Pinch points
- Faulty equipment
- Electrocution
- Improper loading
- Working from personnel platforms
- Lack of hazard assessment
LATTICE CRANES
3Guidelines for Safe Operation
- Daily inspections of equipment by operators
- Inspects components for wear and tear
- Replace slings and wire ropes if worn
- No one should ever be under a load
LATTICE CRANES
4Guidelines for Safe Operation
- Operator should be aware of others at all times
- Only one person should give hand signals
- Never exceed load limits
LATTICE CRANES
5Guidelines for Safe Operation
- Employees should be properly trained in rigging
and crane safety - Never ride a load
- Operator should make slow smooth directional
movement
LATTICE CRANES
6Guidelines for Safe Operation
- All parties should be involved and aware the
potential hazards - Be aware of power lines
- Fully seat hooks and remove slack before making a
pick - Wear gloves when rigging, and of course hardhat,
safety glasses, and safety boots
LATTICE CRANES
7Guidelines for Safe Operation
- Locate hook directly above the pick point to
avoid swinging - Stay clear of tracks, especially when crane is
walking - Be aware of hazards on routes when during
transportation - Operator should never leave the controls unless
the crane is dogged off - FOLLOW OSHA REQULATIONS
LATTICE CRANES
8Inspection Checklist
- Check for loose or missing parts
- Check the block assembly
- Check wire ropes for broken strands or reduced
diameters - Check for wear and tear on slings
