Goals of the Citizens Police Academy

• Educate the public about the functions of their
  Police Department
• Highlight the roles of each Public Safety
  Department
• Citizens attending will become more confident and
  knowledgeable about their public safety
  departments
• Help to improve communications between all public
  services

Citizens Police Academy Overview

• This course will consist of (10) classes
• Each class will be taught by a certified Police
  Officer, Paramedic, EMT, and/or Firefighter
• Each participant will be 18 years of age or
  older. Also every participant will either live
  or work in the town of Acushnet
• There will be no cost to the participant

• Meet and Greet, familiarization with the town and
  the Acushnet Police Department
• Constitutional Law Criminal Law
• Motor Vehicle Law Traffic Stops
• Familiarization with Acushnet EMS
• Domestic Abuse, Elder Abuse Juvenile Issues
• Use of Force
• Familiarization with Acushnet Fire/Rescue
  Department
• Crime Scene Investigations
• Firearms Safety
• Wrap up with presentation of certificates
