CHARACTERS

• PROTAGONIST the main character in a story
• ANTAGONIST the character opposing the protagonist

PLOT

• A series of related episodes or events that make
  up a story
• Creates suspense a feeling of anxious
  curiosity/want to know what will happen next

CONFLICT

• A struggle between opposing characters
• TWO TYPES OF CONFLICT
• INTERNAL
• EXTERNAL

INTERNAL CONFLICT

• A struggle between opposing desires or emotions
  in a characters mind.
• Does the character cheat to get a good grade vs.
  risk of losing teachers respect if caught.

EXTERNAL CONFLICT

• A struggle between a character and some outside
  force
• Character vs. another character
• Character vs. society/group
• Character vs. nature (sailor vs. storm)

REMEMBER

• IT IS THE CONFLICT THAT CREATES THE SUSPENSE OF
  THE PLOT!!!

CLIMAX

• The storys most emotional or suspenseful moment
• The conflict is decided one way or the other

POINT OF VIEW

• The vantage point from which a story is told
• Who is telling this story??

FIRST PERSON

• One of the characters is the narrator the one
  telling the story
• Uses the pronoun I

THIRD PERSON

• The narrator is not a character in the story

OMNISCIENT

• The narrator knows everything about all
  characters, even their most private thoughts
• The narrator stands above the action Looking
  down on it

LIMITED

• The narrator focuses in on the thoughts and
  feelings of one character and tells the story
  from this characters viewpoint
• Sees things as the character sees them.
