The Torch Relay

• It is a symbol of peace and friendship. It is lit
  in Olympia and it will arrive in London on May
  18th. The relay will start in Cornwall on 19th
  May. It will get to the Olympic Stadium on the
  27th July for the opening ceremony.

  from Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square.
• Competitions Marathon and Race Walk (Athletics),
  Roadcycling and Paralympic Marathon.

• Beach Volley
• A temporary arena will be built with sand brought
  in to create Londons very own 'beach.
• Tournaments were held at the site in the time of
  Henry VIII
• Horse Guards Parade lies at the heart of
  Whitehall, the political centre of the UK.

• Olympic Games (the Olympics) an international
  multi-sport event that takes place every four
  years
• Paralympic Games (the Paralympics) the
  Paralympic Games are a major international
  multi-sport event where athletes with a physical
  disability compete
• Relay a race between two or more teams where
  each member of the team does part of the race and
  then another member continues. The Olympic Games
  Torch Relay is not a race and, when the last
  torchbearer arrives at the Olympic Stadium, the
  games officially begin.
• Torchbearer a person who carries the Olympic
  torch
• Logo a symbol that represents an organization or
  company
• Mascot an animal, person, or object that is
  thought to be lucky or that is used as a symbol
  of a team or organization.
