The challenge of CMC for the development of the
school landscape in Austria?

6The important question was not simply about
changes in curricula but changes in the human
relationships most closely related to learning
relationships between generations in families,
between teachers and learners and relationships
between peers with common interests. (Tapscott,
1998).
7The path towards the knowledge society is linked
to economic and social change which also
represents a great challenge for schools. In
order to safeguard the high quality of education
in Austria, and in order to improve it further in
international comparison, I have created the
project klassezukunft and set up a
Zukunftskommission (Commission for the Future).
klassezukunft offers the framework for a broad
development process in the school and educational
system. School partners and educational experts
will, in regional events, work on quality
development. Independently of that, all
interested parties will be able to make their
suggestions via a virtual platform. I
therefore invite you to make use of the
possibility, and actively join in the discussion
of the further development, quality assurance and
quality improvement in the educational system and
have a say in shaping this process. Elisabeth
