Curriculum is not changing!the materials
used to deliver instruction to prepare students
for middle school and the rigors of state testing
will change. All classes at grade 5 use the same
curriculum.

  • Math Grouping Begins High and Heterogeneous
    Classes fixed percentage of students in classes
  • Placement Process to be completed by the end of
    September of the 5th grade year
  • Criteria grade 4 end of year test (top 60 of
    class)
  • grade 4 math grades (all As
    on Report Card)
  • NJASK4 Score (top 50 or top
    30)
  • Waivers will not be permitted at the 5th Grade
    Level

  • Textbook Harcourt 5 Text/Glencoe Course 1
  • (Pacing and Sequence to be determined by 5th
    grade math teachers)
  • Compacting Groups determined at the beginning
    of each chapter to ensure all students are
    challenged. Glencoe Course 2 text may be used as
    one material for compacting.
  • Consistency in Content (high classes
    differentiate in depth)

End of Sixth Grade For A Small Cohort
  • Small cohort of students 6-8 on average
  • Identified during the sixth grade
  • Test into this cohort
  • Skip seventh grade pre-algebra and take 8th grade
    algebra J class as 7th graders
  • 8th graders take Geometry Honors at WHRHS
  • No waivers are permitted into this program

  • If in Course 3 Hetero Class 93gt J, 83-92 K

  • Algebra Pre-Readiness Identification Test 80gt
    J level, 70gt K level and 69lt Pre-Algebra
  • All 7th grade Pre-Algebra students are guaranteed
    entrance into Algebra K minimally.
  • Waiver requests will be granted, except students
    may not waive from Hetero 7 to Algebra J (after
    one marking period if required grade average is
    not maintained, student will be moved to
    appropriate class level 70 GPA in K and 83 in
    J).
