5Curriculum is not changing!the materials
used to deliver instruction to prepare students
for middle school and the rigors of state testing
will change. All classes at grade 5 use the same
curriculum.

- Math Grouping Begins High and Heterogeneous
Classes fixed percentage of students in classes - Placement Process to be completed by the end of
September of the 5th grade year - Criteria grade 4 end of year test (top 60 of
class) - grade 4 math grades (all As
on Report Card) - NJASK4 Score (top 50 or top
30) - Waivers will not be permitted at the 5th Grade

- Textbook Harcourt 5 Text/Glencoe Course 1
- (Pacing and Sequence to be determined by 5th
grade math teachers) - Compacting Groups determined at the beginning
of each chapter to ensure all students are
challenged. Glencoe Course 2 text may be used as
one material for compacting. - Consistency in Content (high classes
differentiate in depth)

J level, 70gt K level and 69lt Pre-Algebra - All 7th grade Pre-Algebra students are guaranteed
entrance into Algebra K minimally. - Waiver requests will be granted, except students
may not waive from Hetero 7 to Algebra J (after
one marking period if required grade average is
not maintained, student will be moved to
appropriate class level 70 GPA in K and 83 in
J).
