SAVING DRINKING WATERA project by 3N students

Waste Water No!!!
3
Situational Analysis
  • We have 11 classes, 270 students and about 15
teachers. We get our drinking water from
    Warragamba Dam.

4
Design Brief
  • Create and model an idea to save drinking water
    at our school.
  • Design Criteria
  • Must save water
  • Must look good
  • Must be clean
  • Must be affordable
  • Must be easy to make

5
We called in an expert
  • Ms Danielle Spruit, an expert on water
conservation in the Murray Darling Basin, gave
us a fantastic presentation on the importance of
    looking after our drinking water.

6
  • We also went on an aboriginal walking tour with
Vic from the Bidjigal group. He taught us an
appreciation of how aboriginal people used the
land and water in our local area.

7
Time to start planning
8
School water audit
9
We discovered that the teachers staffroom is a
disaster!
10
Problem number two
  • Grey water from our toilet block is not
captured and goes to our stormwater drains. We
should be using it on our grass!! It needs it.

11
Problem number three
  • We have a water tank for the hall that is used to
flush toilets, but we also have a tank that isnt
    attached to anything!

12
Design solutions
  • 1. Put a water saving device on the staffroom
    tap.
  • 2. Move the water tank to the side of our toilet
block so that it can be used for toilet flushing.
  • 3. Raise money to pay for a Waterwise greywater
system to be installed at the toilets.

13
A greywater tank will send our bubbler and tap
water to the garden
  • The equipment will cost about 3,000 and the
plumbing will cost that much again thats a lot
of fund-raising. We will set ourselves this goal
    in 2010. Its worth it.
