Title: Genesis, chapter 1

1
Genesis, chapter 1
  • NIV Genesis 11 In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was
formless and empty, darkness was over the surface
of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering
    over the waters.

2
Genesis, chapter 1
  • The existence, wisdom, and greatness of God are
shown by the things that He has made so that none
are without excuse to believe that there is a
Divine Architect to all things. On the Last Day,
no one will be able to say that they did not know
a Divine Being was out there.

3
Genesis, chapter 1
  • NIV Romans 120 For since the creation of the
world God's invisible qualities-- his eternal
power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made, so that
men are without excuse.NIV Acts 1726 From one
man he made every nation of men, that they should
inhabit the whole earth and he determined the
times set for them and the exact places where
they should live. 27 God did this so that men
would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and
find him, though he is not far from each one of
    us.

4
ex nihilo
  • We make.
  • We manufacture.
  • We manipulate.
  • God alone truly creates.
  • Ex nihilo is a common term in theology that only
the Lord can create out of nothing.

5
Genesis, chapter 1
  • We see a formless mass (of the waters) by which
    all things will be made.
  • God uses water to mightily bless His people
    throughout the Bible.
  • Creation. Flood. Red Sea. Jordan Crossing.
    Ceremonial washing. Jesus baptism.
  • Notice each water is drastically less in external
amount so that the focus is on the internal.

6
Genesis, chapter 1
  • Note These waters decrease in physical power
    and quantity through His-story, BUT
  • They increase in the pledge of a good conscious
    towards God.

7
Genesis, chapter 1
  • NIV 1 Peter 321 and this water symbolizes
baptism that now saves you also-- not the removal
of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good
conscience toward God. It saves you by the
    resurrection of Jesus Christ,

8
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there
was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and
he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God
called the light "day," and the darkness he
called "night." And there was evening, and there
    was morning-- the first day.

9
Let there be light!
10
Day means Day -- Yom
  • NIV Exodus 2011 For in six days the LORD made
the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that
is in them, but he rested on the seventh day.
Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and
    made it holy.

11
There was evening, and there was morning-
  • In many places and in the Bible, the day does not
begin and end at midnight. It begins and ends at
the setting of the sun. The repetition of this
phrase clarifies the 24 hour time period ascribed
to each step to create all things in perfect
harmony. The image of God (mankind) would
reflect this in his/her own lives on earth.

12
Genesis, chapter 1
  • NIV John 812 When Jesus spoke again to the
people, he said, "I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."

13
Light
  • The nature of God (the Deity) is beyond human
understanding. He needs to make himself known in
a way that we can understand. Jesus is the Light
and the Word. He is the revelation of the
    incomprehensible God.
  • NIV John 149 Jesus answered "Don't you know me,
Philip, even after I have been among you such a
long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the
Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

14
Genesis, chapter 1
  • For God, who said, "Let light shine out of
darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to
give us the light of the knowledge of the glory
of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 46.

15
Genesis, chapter 1
  • From the very start, Christ was part of the
God-head by which we can perceive Him (light) and
through whom all things were made.

16
The Lord Jesus is the full revelation (LIGHT) of
the God who created all things
  • NIV John 13 Through him all things were made
without him nothing was made that has been made.

17
The NT Teaches the Lord Jesus is the LIGHT of the
God who Created All Things
  • NIV Colossians 116 For by him all things were
created things in heaven and on earth, visible
and invisible, whether thrones or powers or
rulers or authorities all things were created by
    him and for him.

18
The NT Teaches the Lord Jesus is the LIGHT of the
God who Created All Things
  • NIV Hebrews 13 The Son is the radiance of God's
glory and the exact representation of his being,
sustaining all things by his powerful word. After
he had provided purification for sins, he sat
down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

19
Genesis, chapter 1
  • NIV John 11 In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He
was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all
things were made without him nothing was made
that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that
life was the light of men.

20
Jesus is the LIGHT and the WORD simultaneously
  • NIV John 114 The Word became flesh and made his
dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the
glory of the One and Only, who came from the
Father, full of grace and truth.

21
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between
the waters to separate water from water." 7 So
God made the expanse and separated the water
under the expanse from the water above it. And it
was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there
was evening, and there was morning-- the second
    day.

22
The Second Day
23
Water seperated from Water?
  • This is either a reference to rain or to a
    stratosphere of water.

24
Were there rain and storms before the Fall into
sin?
  • Genesis 26 says, but streams came up from the
earth and watered the whole surface of the
    ground.

25
Were there rain and storms before the Fall into
sin?
  • Before the flood (Genesis chapters 6-9), the
earth was surrounded by a firmament of water.
These are the waters that God released, causing
the flood. It seems that before the flood, the
dew and ample water supply was enough to keep
    creation watered.

26
Were there rain and storms before the Fall into
sin?
  • The Bible does not specifically tell us whether
if it had rained before the flood or not. Noah
seemed to understand what rain was when God
mentioned it to him (Genesis 74-5). Genesis
24-6 mentions that God did not send rain on the
earth until after He created Adam and Eve.

27
Noah understood rain
  • But the rain patterns that we experience in a
post-flood world may be different than the
pre-flood world experienced. Our rains might
not be as gentle as the daily watering.

28
Water FROM ABOVE separated from Water FROM BELOW?
  • NIV Genesis 711 In the six hundredth year of
Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second
month-- on that day all the springs of the great
deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the
heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the
earth forty days and forty nights.

29
The Floodgates
  • Streams came up to water creation.
  • And a major river came up also.
  • Genesis 210 A river watering the garden flowed
from Eden from there it was separated into four
    headwaters.

30
The Floodgates
  • From Eden came a river that branched out into
other rivers to water creation. We know rivers
normally form from smaller tributaries. The
pre-Flood world may have seen this in part, but
the major river of Eden broke into smaller ones
to irrigate a large portion of the world at that
    time.

31
Many creationists believe a stratus of water
surrounded the earth protecting it from harmful
radiation and creating a more uniform
climate. Evolutionists are baffled as to how
dinosaurs lived near the North Pole. Wouldnt
they freeze in the dark months? But the
vegetation along with fossils indicate year
round warmth.
32
Creationism notes that the foundations of the
single continent were broken Up and shifted
across the globe in the Flood. And a
stratosphere would create a more mild global
climate. This would also solve the mystery of
the great size of many creatures if the
stratosphere made the earth to be like a
hyperbaric chamber. Perhaps, we also have
experienced atmospheric loss.
33
Hyperbaric World?
  • A related effect is the increased oxygen
transport capacity of the blood. Under present
atmospheric pressure, oxygen transport is limited
by the oxygen binding capacity of hemoglobin in
red blood cells and a dramatically decreased
amount of oxygen is actually transported by blood
plasma. Oxygen transport by plasma, however is
    significantly increased under HBOT. Wikipedia.

34
Why do we heal so much better in a hyperbaric
world???
  •  A new study shows autism may be improved by
using hyperbaric oxygen chambers. This is the
first study of autistic children and hyperbaric
oxygen chambers using a tightly monitored group.
Researchers from BioMed Pediatrics gathered 62
children from different centers who had been
diagnosed with autism, from ages two to seven,
and gave them 40 hours worth of oxygen
    treatments.

35
Why do we heal so much better in a hyperbaric
world???
  • The results were surprisingly good. 80 improved,
while the other 8 in the control group showed no
difference. It is not known yet whether or not
the improvements this brought about in social
    development, cognitive behavior, language skills,
and eye contact are long term, or if they are
short term treatments that would have to be done
    frequently.

36
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be
gathered to one place, and let dry ground
appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry
ground "land," and the gathered waters he called
"seas." And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God
said, "Let the land produce vegetation
seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that
bear fruit with seed in it, according to their
various kinds." And it was so.

37
The Third Day
38
Genesis, chapter
  • 12 The land produced vegetation plants bearing
seed according to their kinds and trees bearing
fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.
And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was
evening, and there was morning-- the third day.

39
What is the difference between macro- and
mirco-evolution?
  • Why does evolution conflict with the Genesis
    account?
  • What is the role of death in evolution? Natural.
  • How will the Bible explain death for human and
creature? Unnatural. People and animals were
    originally vegetarians.

40
According to kinds
  • Species are established as species. Christians
    can accept mirco-evolution (variations), not
    macro-evolution (a whole new species).

41
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the
expanse of the sky to separate the day from the
night, and let them serve as signs to mark
seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be
lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on
the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great
lights-- the greater light to govern the day and
the lesser light to govern the night. He also
    made the stars.

42
Just imagine the glory we were meant to see at
night before the Fall.
43
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give
light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the
night, and to separate light from darkness. And
God saw that it was good. 19 And there was
evening, and there was morning-- the fourth day.

44
When Moses wrote this
  • Many cultures worshipped the heavenly bodies as
    deities
  • Biblical perspective the heavenly bodies exist
to SERVE US with LIGHT in the night.
  • Even today, the heavenly bodies are worshipped as
    such.

45
  • Song We are stars, Fashioned in the flesh and
    bone The Pierces.
  • The Universe created us.
  • Similar train of thought of Carl Sagan mocking
    the Christian belief in God
  • The Cosmos is all that is or was or ever will
    be.

46
Let there be light!
  • Imagine filming a grenade exploding. You can
rewind the film and see it explode backwards
(implode) in time to a finite point. Our
universe is expanding out like a grenade
explosion. This fits with the Biblical account
and how the Lord made it possible to distinguish
the different heavenly bodies as they spread out.

47
The problems with Big Bang
  • The problem with the Big Bang theory is the
amazing complexity and cooperative nature that
atoms and various particles possess. This
obviously could not be from a random explosion to
form such (1) complexity and (2) necessarily
    cooperative properties.

48
The problems with Big Bang
  • Believe it or not, it is immensely difficult in
secular science to determine the age of the
    universe.
  • The best estimate is that the universe expands
3.2 times faster than the speed of light. There
are galaxies that we see that are actually moving
away from us faster than the speed of light.

49
How Old?
  • If a galaxy is 13 billion light years from us (or
the center of the universe), then the universe
must be 13 billion years old???? Note question
    marks.
  • The universe is in constant movement that is not
constant in speed or time. When you observe a
super nova, it did not occur in the place you saw
it. You see the light but the remnants of the
crab nebula is actually in a whole new place.
  • Human history has observed supernovas but we
werent destroyed by them because they had moved
by the time the light came to earth.

50
  • The problem.
  • The grenade explosion occurs. Are all particles
travelling at the constant same rate?
  • But in the universe, the laws of physics arent
    the same.
  • Imagine individual particles speeding up, slowing
    down, then speeding up.

51
  • So imagine sitting in the universe, you see a
galaxy emitting light that is actually moving
away from you faster than the speed of light.
What you see is actually in a new spot? How do
you figure out where it is?
  • Well you come up with a formula to determine
speed. But its not that simple. The speed is
not constant due to various laws at work in the
    universe.

52
  • As a very rough analogy, the universe behaves
like a river with rapids in its expansion. If
you put a boat in the river and allow it to be
carried by the flow, it will accelerate as it
moves downstream and enters the rapids. It will
slow down in a wide shallow basin.

53
  • Now imagine that you sit on the bank and see a
boat pass by at 10 mph. Close your eyes. Where
was the boat an hour before? Where will the boat
    be in two hours?
  • You would have to know the speed of the water at
each particular point it travelled and will
    travel (depth, narrows, widening, new
tributaries, etc.). The rate of speed is
    RELATIVE.

54
  • When someone tries to determine the age of the
universe, they are trying to figure out a
    changing river formula.
  • Were there narrows at the beginning for super
    fast expansion?
  • With sediment build up, was something fast or a
    time NOW slow?
  • Did God pushed the heavenly lights out at faster
    in the very beginning???

55
The Expanding Universe
  • Again, we can observe that the universe is
expanding out from a single point.
  • God created the light of heavenly bodies starting
from that point. In this formation time, God
showed special attention to our world and then
set it in the solar system and place we know in
    our galaxy.

56
Our place in our galaxy is in an open place so
that we can observe the universe.
57
On this day of creation
  • The Lord put us in a point where we can observe
the heavens, not hazy light in a cluster of
    heavenly bodies.

58
Our special place in the heavens
59
A Neat Observation
  • Even though the moon varies in proximity to the
earth (making a bit larger or smaller at times),
its size is pretty much consistent to the size
of the sun in our sky. What are the odds???
This is why a total solar eclipse lasts for such
    a short period of time.

Genesis, chapter 1
  • 20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living
creatures, and let birds fly above the earth
across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created
the great creatures of the sea and every living
and moving thing with which the water teems,
according to their kinds, and every winged bird
according to its kind. And God saw that it was
    good.

62
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and
increase in number and fill the water in the
seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."
23 And there was evening, and there was morning--
    the fifth day.

63
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 24 And God said, "Let the land produce living
creatures according to their kinds livestock,
creatures that move along the ground, and wild
animals, each according to its kind." And it was
so. 25 God made the wild animals according to
their kinds, the livestock according to their
kinds, and all the creatures that move along the
ground according to their kinds. And God saw that
    it was good.

64
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image,
in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish
of the sea and the birds of the air, over the
livestock, over all the earth, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God
created man in his own image, in the image of God
he created him male and female he created them.

65
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be
fruitful and increase in number fill the earth
and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and
the birds of the air and over every living
creature that moves on the ground." 29 Then God
said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the
face of the whole earth and every tree that has
fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for
    food.

66
Idea of Dominion
  • This means entrusted.
  • We think of dominion as tyranny. But this was
not the case before sin, it means entrusted like
a baby with a loving mother.

67
Genesis, chapter 1
  • 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all
the birds of the air and all the creatures that
move on the ground-- everything that has the
breath of life in it-- I give every green plant
for food." And it was so. 31 God saw all that he
had made, and it was very good. And there was
evening, and there was morning-- the sixth day.

68
Note Creature did not originally consume
creature.
  • NIV Genesis 92 The fear and dread of you will
fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the
birds of the air, upon every creature that moves
along the ground, and upon all the fish of the
sea they are given into your hands. 3 Everything
that lives and moves will be food for you. Just
as I gave you the green plants, I now give you
everything. 4 "But you must not eat meat that has
    its lifeblood still in it.

69
Note Creature did not originally consume
creature.
  • NIV Isaiah 117 The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together, and the lion
will eat straw like the ox.

70
Dominion given
  • What is meant by image of God?REFLECTIONDomini
on in the pre-Fall world meant Gods gracious and
loving care, not our own selfish control.

71
Image and Likeness
  • Mankind held a special role (link) in creation.
  • Animal Flesh.
  • Angel Spirit.
  • Mankind Flesh and spirit.

72
The Glory We Were Meant to Have
  • There are two allusions to this glorious body
    that we possessed.
  • NIV Matthew 1343 Then the righteous will shine
like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He
who has ears, let him hear.

73
The Glory We Were Meant to Have
  • The Mount of Transfiguration also alludes to this
glory that saints in paradise have with the Lord.
Jesus is in glory with Moses and Elijah. In the
Book of Revelation, Jesus is shown in this
    glorious light. And we hear

74
The Glory We Were Meant to Have
  • NIV 1 John 32 Dear friends, now we are children
of God, and what we will be has not yet been made
known. But we know that when he appears, we shall
be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

  • Fossilized Human FingerThis amazing fossil was
found along the banks of the Paluxy River, famous
for its dinosaur and human tracks. The dramatic
    three-dimensional shape is unmistakable. (Many
three-dimension fossils are found near by.) This
fossil has been carefully analyzed, x-rayed,
CT-scanned and found perfectly consistent with a
    human finger.

  • Fossilized Hand PrintThis fossil which
corresponds perfectly to a human handprint shows
astounding detail. Even the print of the thumb
nail can be seen. It is found in the Glen Rose
limestone which is designated as Middle
Cretaceous, supposedly 110 million years old and
    contemporary with the dinosaurs!
