4Pediatric Trauma . . .
. . . Our Major Focus
5Its Beginning . . .
Recognizing the serious need for education and
training in the areas of pediatric trauma and
injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha
Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma
Program in 1994.
6Our Mission . . .
"To develop local projects, which will reduce the
number of children in our District who are killed
or injured by trauma."
7Why Pediatric Trauma?
8Why PTP?
- Unintentional injury remains the 1 killer of
children age 14 and under in the U.S. - Unintentional injury kills more kids every year
than any other cause including disease,
homicide and suicide!
9Why PTP?
- These injuries cost society 157 billion1
annually! - 90 of these injuries could be prevented!
1 Includes direct medical costs, future earnings
lost and lost quality of life
10How Do We Address These Needs?
- Partner Hospitals
- The Foundations partnership with six childrens
hospitals connects the Kiwanis family to the
