Solutions Across Borders aims to equip our
members with the necessary tools to create
change in an interconnected world
Our tri-partite approach to solving cross-border
challenges
1. Weekly Discussions SAB members have an
opportunity to voice their concerns about
current, relevant issues such as the changing
role of the media, difficulties in market
integration, and human rights violations in a
safe, open space. Every week, students lead
conversations on the topic of their choice, using
printed and digital media sources t to fuel
discussion. Discussion leaders also invite
special guests, including nonprofit leaders and
educators, to participate. and on-line
blogging! Even those who cant make it to
meetings have a chance to participate online at
solutionsacrossbordersblog.blogspot.com Check it
out!
2. Schoolwide Initiatives SABs primary aim is to
increase awareness among the Baruch community
about tangible solutions for the challenges of
the globalization age. We thus host on-campus
events to reach out to students and staff Past
events include Across the Generations a World
AIDS Day Event December 2008 SAB hosted a group
of students from Generation HS to discuss the
impact of AIDS on young people and vice versa.
To be able to stir up young minds and the chance
to teach our next generation the power of
knowledge is one reason why I joined Solutions
Across Borders. Ada Ng, commenting on the
event Media and Politics in the Age of
Globalization October 2008 An panel of media
experts discussed the upcoming election,
focusing on portrayal of the issues of race,
gender, young voters, and the economy in the
media.

Solutions Across Borders, working with the Adakum
Educational Foundation, is planning a service
learning opportunity to Ghana, to aid primary
school students and their families via the
Malaria No More project. The initial trip is
scheduled for summer 2009. SAB is working with
the Macaulay Honors College and the Weissman
Center for International Business to establish
this as an annual opportunity at Baruch.
And Beyond
Taking advantage of our location just a few
stops from the UN, Solutions Across Borders
members participated in a panel discussion on
malaria. Club members came away with the
knowledge that there is hope to eradicate this
disease. Tina Grandinetti

3. Off-Site Opportunities Although we work hard
to advocate and educate, we dont just stop
there. SABs mission is to offer students
opportunities to proactively participate in
developing solutions to cross-border challenges,
through activism, volunteerism and awareness
building. We also work hard to establish
relationships between our members and
organizations and individuals, working to benefit
those who are left behind or hurt as a result of
globalization phenomena.
