1Doctrine of JesusFrom Eternity, Old Testament,
Humanity, Divinity
Hebrews 105 Therefore, when He came into the
world, He said "Sacrifice and offering You did
not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.
2The Doctrine of Jesus
- Jesus did not begin in Bethelehem.
- Jesus did not end at Jerusalem.
- Many question the doctrine of Jesus' humanity /
divinity. - Was Jesus 100 human while on earth?
- Was Jesus 100 deity while on earth?
- Here is the plan for this study
- From Eternity
- In the Old Testament
- His Humanity
- His Divinity
3From Eternity
- John 11-3 1 In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He
was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were
made through Him, and without Him nothing was
made that was made. - John 175 And now, O Father, glorify Me together
with Yourself, with the glory which I had with
You before the world was.
4From Eternity
- Colossians 115-17 15 He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in
heaven and that are on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or
principalities or powers. All things were created
through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all
things, and in Him all things consist.
5From Eternity
- Genesis 126 Then God said, "Let Us make man in
Our image, according to Our likeness let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the
birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all
the earth and over every creeping thing that
creeps on the earth."
6In the Old Testament
- Genesis 167-14
- 11 And the Angel of the Lord said to her
"Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a
son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the
Lord has heard your affliction. - Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to
her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees for she said,
"Have I also here seen Him who sees me?"
7In the Old Testament
- Genesis 18 1 Then the Lord appeared to him by
the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting
in the tent door in the heat of the day. 2 So he
lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men
were standing by him and when he saw them, he
ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed
himself to the ground,
8In the Old Testament
- Genesis 18 13 And the Lord said to Abraham, "Why
did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Shall I surely bear a
child, since I am old?' - 22 Then the men turned away from there and went
toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the
Lord.
9In the Old Testament
- Exodus 32-4 2 And the Angel of the Lord appeared
to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a
bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was
burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
3 Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see
this great sight, why the bush does not burn." 4
So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to
look, God called to him from the midst of the
bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here
I am."
10In the Old Testament
- Numbers 2116-17 16 From there they went to Beer,
which is the well where the Lord said to Moses,
"Gather the people together, and I will give them
water." 17 Then Israel sang this song "Spring
up, O well! All of you sing to it-- - 1 Corinthians 104 and all drank the same
spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual
Rock that followed them, and that Rock was
Christ.
11In the Old Testament
- Judges 612-14 12 And the Angel of the Lord
appeared to him, and said to him, "The Lord is
with you, you mighty man of valor!" 13 Gideon
said to Him, "O my lord, if the Lord is with us,
why then has all this happened to us? And where
are all His miracles which our fathers told us
about, saying, 'Did not the Lord bring us up from
Egypt?' But now the Lord has forsaken us and
delivered us into the hands of the Midianites."
12In the Old Testament
- Judges 622-23 22 Now Gideon perceived that He
was the Angel of the Lord. So Gideon said, "Alas,
O Lord God! For I have seen the Angel of the Lord
face to face." 23 Then the Lord said to him,
"Peace be with you do not fear, you shall not
die."
13In the Old Testament
- Judges 133 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to
the woman and said to her, "Indeed now, you are
barren and have borne no children, but you shall
conceive and bear a son. - Judges 1321-22 21 When the Angel of the Lord
appeared no more to Manoah and his wife, then
Manoah knew that He was the Angel of the Lord. 22
And Manoah said to his wife, "We shall surely
die, because we have seen God!"
14In the Old Testament
- 1 Kings 195-7 5 Then as he lay and slept under a
broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and
said to him, "Arise and eat." 6 Then he looked,
and there by his head was a cake baked on coals,
and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay
down again. 7 And the angel of the Lord came back
the second time, and touched him, and said,
"Arise and eat, because the journey is too great
for you."
15In the Old Testament
- Psalm 27 "I will declare the decree The Lord
has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have
begotten You.
16In the Old Testament
- Daniel 324-25 24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was
astonished and he rose in haste and spoke,
saying to his counselors, "Did we not cast three
men bound into the midst of the fire?" They
answered and said to the king, "True, O king." 25
"Look!" he answered, "I see four men loose,
walking in the midst of the fire and they are
not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the
Son of God."

seen the Father so how can you say, 'Show us the
Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the

25The HUMANITY of Jesus
- Docetism doctrine that Jesus did not come in
the flesh - From Greek (dokeo to seem) They claimed that
He just seemed to be real - They taught that Jesus possessed divinity only,
that He did not actually become flesh.
26The HUMANITY of Jesus
- 1 John 42-3 2 By this you know the Spirit of
God Every spirit that confesses that Jesus
Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and
every spirit that does not confess that Jesus
Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And
this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you
have heard was coming, and is now already in the
world.
27The HUMANITY of JesusPhysically the same as we
are
- Born of a woman Genesis 315 Isaiah 714
Matthew 116 - Galatians 44 But when the fullness of the time
had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a
woman, born under the law, - Hebrews 214a Inasmuch then as the children have
partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise
shared in the same
28The HUMANITY of JesusPhysically the same as we
are
- Grew physically Luke 240 And the Child grew
and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom
and the grace of God was upon Him. - Luke 252 And Jesus increased in wisdom and
stature, and in favor with God and men.
29The HUMANITY of JesusPhysically the same as we
are
- Had a body of flesh and bone Luke 2439 Behold
My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle
Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and
bones as you see I have." - Hebrews 214 Inasmuch then as the children have
partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise
shared in the same, that through death He might
destroy him who had the power of death, that is,
the devil,
30The HUMANITY of JesusPhysically the same as we
are
- His veins contained blood John 1934 But one of
the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and
immediately blood and water came out. - He hungered Matthew 42 And when He had fasted
forty days and forty nights, afterward He was
hungry. - Mark 1112 Now the next day, when they had come

are
- He thirsted Psalm 6921 They also gave me gall
for my food, And for my thirst they gave me
vinegar to drink. - John 47-8 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw
water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." 8
For His disciples had gone away into the city to
buy food.
32The HUMANITY of JesusPhysically the same as we
are
- He got tired and slept Matthew 824 And
suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so
that the boat was covered with the waves. But He
was asleep. - John 46 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus
therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat
thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

are

- Matthew 2750 Mark 1537 Luke 2346 John 1930
- 1 Peter 318 For Christ also suffered once for
sins, the just for the unjust, that He might
bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh
but made alive by the Spirit,
34The HUMANITY of JesusPhysically the same as we
are
- He died
- Hebrews 29 But we see Jesus, who was made a
little lower than the angels, for the suffering
of death crowned with glory and honor, that He,
by the grace of God, might taste death for
everyone.
35The HUMANITY of JesusEmotions were the same
- He rejoiced
- Luke 1021 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the
Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of
heaven and earth, that You have hidden these
things from the wise and prudent and revealed
them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed
good in Your sight.
36The HUMANITY of JesusEmotions were the same
- He got angry
- Matthew 2112 drove out money changers

sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said
to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even
to death. Stay here and watch with Me." - Acquainted with grief Isaiah 533

city and wept over it, 42 saying, "If you had
known, even you, especially in this your day, the
things that make for your peace! But now they are
hidden from your eyes.
40The HUMANITY of JesusSame temptations
- Hebrews 415 For we do not have a High Priest who
cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in
all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. - Matthew 41 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit
into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
41The HUMANITY of JesusSame temptations
- Hebrews 217-18 17 Therefore, in all things He
had to be made like His brethren, that He might
be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things
pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the
sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has
suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those
who are tempted.

- A son learned the trade of his father
- Matthew 1355-56 55 Is this not the carpenter's

have known My Father also and from now on you

Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is

Father so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
