FIRST For the Inspiration and Recognition of
Science and Technology
  • Created by Dean Kamen Inventor of the Segway and
    wheel chairs that climb stairs.
  • Wants to change the world by getting high school
    students excited about Math and Science.
  • We do this by building robots!
  • Presently 1100 high schools competing each year.

    with autonomous first strike extending ladder 12

2004 Robot Raising the Bar
  • Telescoping robot that could follow a line using
    optical sensors, herd balls, lift balls, climb 6
    stairs, and pull up on 10 high bar
  • Autonomous Line tracking Controls Award
  • 1st place AZ - Upper 25 Nationals
  • Up to 12 Students

  • Omni-wheel Luma crane capable of lifting 10 lb
    tetrahedrons 12 ft high
  • 2nd place AZ
  • Award for Omni-Wheels
  • 16 Students

2006 Robot Aim High
  • Turret Tank that located and track target using a
    gimbaled camera
  • Shot 7 balls through a 30 diameter target from
    10 to 33 ft.
  • Took 9th place AZ Regional
  • Grown to over 20 students
