What is LARSS?
  • LARSS is the Langley Aerospace Research Summer
    Scholars Program
  • Established in 1986 for the benefit of
    undergraduate juniors and seniors and first-year
    graduate students who are pursuing degrees in
    aerospace engineering or selected
    aerospace-related disciplines of interest to
    LaRC.

Elements of LARSS
  • There are two primary elements of LARSS
  • A research project to be completed by each
    participant under the supervision of a researcher
    who will assume the role of a mentor for the
    summer.
  • Attendance at technical lectures by prominent
    engineers and scientists.

What is Langley?
  • NASA Langley continues to forge new frontiers in
    aviation and space research.
  • It was established as the nations first civilian
    aeronautics laboratory.
  • There are 3800 civil service and contract
    employees on site.
  • Research areas include aeronautics, earth
    sciences, space technology, structures
    materials.

Who Can Participate?
  • Eligibility Requirements
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be classified as a junior, senior, or graduate
    student (Masters or Ph.D. level) as of June 1,
    2005.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a
    scale of 4.0.

Application Process (1/2)
  • The application includes
  • Completed LARSS application form
  • Résumé
  • Statement of goals, research experiences, and
    other pertinent data
  • University transcript INCLUDING Fall 2004 grades
    (Note Transcripts are required from each
    institution attended)
  • Two recommendation letters (prefer letters in
    application package when submitted, however
    faculty may opt to fax/mail letters separately
    for confidentiality purposes)

  • The application can be found on the LARSS
    website http//edu.larc.nasa.gov/larss/
  • Application must be postmarked by February 1,
    2005!
