What is a Prophet?
  • Spokesperson for God
  • Pro - on behalf of
  • Phases - Speaking
  • A messenger of the covenant
  • God wants us as his family - so prophets are
    always calling us into covenants
  • Role is Prescriptive - he forthtells not
    foretells
  • They instruct the people on present and how to
    interpret the past
  • Often brought doom and gloom messages
  • Also brought comfort and a promise of salvation.

  1. Special circumstances of birth
  2. Dramatic call from God
  3. Protest of the Call
  4. Commissioning from God
  5. Rejection and disbelief by the people
  6. Intercede on behalf of people
  7. See a better future for people
