Table 1. Results of univariate analysis
Table 2. Results of multivariate analysis
Factors related (with plt0.1) to high LDL-C in adult children OR 95 CI P
LDL cholesterol of proband - parent, mmol/l 1.46 1.12 to 1.91 0.005
LDL cholesterol of consort - parent, mmol/l 1.83 1.17 to 2.86 0.008
metabolic syndrome of consort parent 2.66 1.22 to 5.81 0.014
BMI of consort - parent, kg/m2 1.10 1.02 to 1.18 0.015
own smoking 0.74 0.59 to 0.95 0.016
waist circumference of consort - parent, cm 1.04 1.01 to 1.08 0.017
own diastolic BP, mm Hg 1.03 1.00 to 1.06 0.054
own BMI, kg/m2 1.06 0.99 to 1.12 0.086
Independent predictors of high LDL-C in adult children OR 95 CI P
LDL cholesterol of proband - parent, mmol/l 1.46 1.12 to 1.91 0.005
LDL cholesterol of consort - parent, tertile 3 (4.42 mmol/l) vs tertile 1 (lt3.71 mmol/l) 5.18 1.72 to 15.6 0.003
BMI of consort - parent, tertile 3 (29.4 kg/m2) vs tertile 1 (lt25.5 kg/m2) 3.36 1.25 to 9.02 0.016
own smoking vs non-smoking 0.46 0.24 to 0.88 0.018
Conclusions
- In this group of adult children with parental
premature CHD - LDL-C level of proband-parent was independently
associated with high LDL-C - However characteristics of consort-parent (LDL-C
and BMI) were also independently related to high
LDL-C in their adult children.
